Hypnogogic Imagery- abrupt stop

It's strange, whenever I start to have HI, it abruptly stops. I'll just be getting into it and then all of a sudden, it cuts off and I'll be left staring at the back of my eyelids. Has anybody else had this problem?

If you become aware of the fact that you're watching HI, then your focus will come back to real life and you'll just see blackness. That happens to me sometimes when I'm attempting a WILD. So the key is to relax and let your mind succumb to the images.
