REM Atonia cycle - are the benefits of sleep maintained or lost?

I'm a newbie lucid dreamer and the last two nights I've had extremely long attempts at WILDing that did keep me aware through countless cycles of Atonia (muscle spasms, numbness, heaviness, bed movement, red blotches morphing, etc.) but never fully entered the dream state. That said this lasted for a few hours the 1st night and and almost 5 last night. The experience of the Atonia itself is very cool and I've enjoyed the journey even though I didn't reach full dream state yet. That leads to my question...

Am I getting any benefit of sleep during this time I've spent or is it pretty much like I was awake and active during these hours? The way I feel I'd guess the latter, as I'm pretty tired. Obviously I'm going to want to chill out for a while if this is preventing me from getting the sleep I need so curious on opinions, any evidence to support either answer, etcetera. Thanks!
