      Can anyone draw the line?

Ever since I learned of WILDing a couple of months ago, I was hesitant to jump in because the explanation for it seemed a bit fuzzy, and I wanted to [U]know[U] i was WILDing not just have some self-fulfilling prophecy where I'm really awake all night just trippin on some HI.
So I guess I'm looking for a clearer understanding of WILDs- particularly- Whats the line that has normal unconscious falling asleep on one side, and WILDing on the other side.
About every day of the past two weeks I've attempted it, using the counting breaths on inhalation and saying "I'm dreaming" in my mind on exhalation method pretty exhaustively. I either am awake for hours or pass out somewhere in the 200-250 breath count range.
It just seems paradoxical to me. To be aware and conscious leads to me not being able to lie to myself and knowing im in my body staying awake, while drifting off in my thoughts leads to normal sleep.
So what's the difference in normal sleep and WILDing.

Most people say that Sleep Paralysis (SP) draws the line between being awake and falling asleep. Some report that they don't actually sink into SP, though. SP is where your body starts to sleep. In normal sleep, you're mind goes to sleep before your body. But in WILDing, your supposed to trick your body into sleeping while your mind stays active. Hope this helps!

sry idt i asked it the way i intended.

Like whats the difference in your level of awareness in normal sleep and WILDing? From what I've read the trick of WILDing is to forget your physical sensations and become immersed in thoughts. Every time I've succeeded in this I just wake up hours later wondering what went wrong.

Well, in normal sleep, you just sleep normally, however you do so. In WILDing, you're pretty much completely awake and aware, just focusing and concentrating on staying aware. Like you said, you are supposed to forget sensations. But some do argue whether you should think. Like why I try to WILD, I count for a while, but it makes me tired after a while. Some people have told me that it's a good idea to play stories or music in your head.

Normal sleep is just that....sleep until you reach a rem stage. What happens during a wild is that when you go to sleep, you immediately start dreaming, and you're fully lucid.

your level of awareness is full on through the entire process of entering a dream during WILD techniques you may have various amounts of focus depending on what works for you, but you're always aware of whats going on. You literally go from awake to dreaming with no middle man.....other than time
