Because falling asleep before entering sleep peralysis is the natural thing to do! Thats why it is hard to accomplish! It just takes time, practice, and patience. I am also having trouble with this, don't give up! Good luck

You just need to condition your mind to give you what you are wanting from it (awareness while transitioning into SP), this is not something that can be mastered overnight ddan, I believe I've told you this before.

Some things that make it easier to maintain alertness while your body remain sufficiently relaxed is by mentally repeating affirmations in conjunction with counting. The focus method I use to carry my consciousness over into my sleep state is below...

1...I remain consciously aware as my body falls to sleep...2...I remain consciously aware as my body falls to sleep...3...I remain consciously aware as my body falls to sleep...4...I remain consciously aware as my body falls to sleep...etc.

This method is two fold in terms of why it works. One - the counting helps you keep tabs on the logical part of your brain so as it does not fall completely asleep. Two - the affirmations carry over so that what you are attempting is being absorbed into the subconscious mind.

I would use this method post-WBTB for optimum results.
