      Very close to SP?

      Hi guys,

I want to know just how close I was to entering sleep paralysis, so here goes the story...

I climbed into bed, not expecting, not trying to go to sleep, but I simply lay there for about a half hour. After a while of doing this, I started to feel tingly at the feet, and it sloooooooowly crept up. I mean, about an inch every minute. It was very very VERY slow. After it had reached my head, my entire body just felt really heavy. My body then felt like it was rocking back and forth at a steady rate. Nothing happened for a few minutes, and it went as far as expected until I felt like I just randomly started falling. That's when the sh*t got scared out of me and I woke up.

Why did I randomly start "falling?" And how close was I to actually entering sleep paralysis?

That usually happens. More specificaly, you usually feel as if you are falling through your matress. After this step in SP, you are nearing the dream state, and when this happens, you usually have HH, and you start seeing a panorama view of a dream. Then, it will slowly come to life, and you will be in your dream. What was happening to you was SP. It was just beggining stages. Keep trying to do it, and every night you will get farther into the process. There is nothing to be scared of, it is all in your head and you can change it at will. Nothing can hurt, if you are too tensed during SP you will come out of it. Just relax, and enjoy the SP process. It is quite fascinating, well, at least for me.

      Good Luck!

Thanks ClearView. But what if the sudden 'jump' (if you will) out of the beginning stages of SP is a reflex and it happens involuntarily? Do I just convince myself it's natural? 'Cause that's what I plan on doing the next time I go to sleep.

Frozzd, that is exactly what you should do. Try to tell your body to completely relax, and if you feel that you are getting scared, just think about the 100's of members who lucid dream every night (which isn't me, I haven't even lucid dreamed yet) and go through SP. I myself have gone through a good amount of SP so far but never a lucid dream. Keep trying, and relax while SP is happening. There are some really good tutorials and threads about lucid dreaming on these forums as well. If things don't work out, take a look at them.

      Hope I helped a bit,

Alright, cool. I'll give that a shot next time I try to enter SP.
