      Sleep Paralysis Breathing

      Hey everyone,

I have been wondering for a long time. There may be a post somewhere out there regarding this issue. However I cannot find it.

      Anyway, to my question.
When you are aiming to complete a WBTB WILD, and you are staying totally relaxed concentrating on your breathing, could you breathe through your mouth or does it have to be through your nose?

Guys, post what works for you as well as a response to my question.
Thanks, Just trying to find alternate techniques.

I was thinking about this just last night...

I would think that you can't breath through your mouth. I remember I had a reason for that... But I don't remember...

I'll be lurking so I can find the answer..

      From Billybobs WILD method...

As an important side note: do not move during your WILD. It is imperative that from the time you lie down to WILD to the time you wake up the next morning that you do not move. Yes, you can swallow, burp, etc. Just don't move your body.

I would assume breathing would also work...

Hmm. It must be my mindset. For some reason if I swallow, or breathe through my mouth, the process is disrupted. Or maybe it mentally does that.

Maybe, because whenever I swallow, it doesn't hurt my process, but who knows.

i believe that when you sleep you have a different type of breathing, it's way more rhythmic and relaxed.

think of a baby breathing while it sleeps. peaceful, right? and full bodied.

i can feel the transition to this type of breathing, it's diaphragmatic.
      deeper.

i can only guess that through the nose will be more to this paradigm though if you have to use your mouth, say, due to a cold, you could still ld.

but i think you can breathe more completely using your nose - you want to take the air all the way into the head and cranial areas for sleep breathing.

there are certain relaxation and WILD techniques that do just this type of focused breathing that mimics sleep.

well for me, the best method is to just lay down and go to sleep like i usually do, you can let your mind wander or whatever... but when you get the urge to turn over, Dont. its pretty simple. go to sleep but keep your mind aware just a little bit...i hope that makes sense :/ like dont try to hard or it wont work...
i mean, do you usually think about how to breathe when you go to bed?
i assume you dont. so dont worry about it during a WILD either. pretend like your going to bed like usual but remind yourself to stay awake.

      I think about breathing...

Anyways, I'd think I do breath through my mouth occasionally in sleep, I'd have to, because I can't really breath through my nose to well while awake...

Honestly whenever I'm in sleep paralysis I never think about breathing at all. I don't even realize I'm doing it. Sometimes I can feel my heart beating tho.

Last night when I attempted doing this, I was breathing through my mouth. On occasion I would forget that I'm breathing and still count my breaths. I really like feeling my heartbeat, its really comfortable.

I personally have been able to move my body as in rolling over, moving my legs etc. If I do move then i have to be very mentally prepared as when I do I enter SP/sleep so fast I might fall unconscious. That being said if I do move I enter SP/sleep much faster.

As far as breath goes I experience the best results when I simply let go and observe my experience as a whole. I tend to start out breathing thru my nose. When I hit SP I notice that I tend to start snoring.

      Thanks Hiho for the input.
I was wondering, when you wrote that you tended snoring, it may be a hallucination. Or maybe it isn't

You're right CV, it could be a hallucination but it does let me know that my body is moving thru, to or, from sleep paralysis. When learning to WILD I discovered that I don't always know when my body is asleep when my monkey mind is having its way with me, when I'm tired or, incredibly focused.

The great part about the snoring is that it is feed back telling me where I am at in relation to dreamtime. So real or not it is useful.

As for the quote it goes to show irrefutably that we can do anything if we give our dominant attention to what we want & not why we cant. I felt so amazed I had to share it.

Truly, an inspiration. I love it when atheletes or very successful people give advice about setting your mind to someone. I am the kind of person who when they set their mind to something, they WILL ABSOLUTLY DO IT. It may not happen as soon as I say it, I may delay it, but IT WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN.
The hard work you put in, you always get out.

I have my own "marker" of when I am in Sleep Paralysis. I always feel like a cold airconditioned feeling on my face, and I feel the entire world dissolve and feel like water around me. I am a swimmer and spend 50% of my life in the pool.
I have been trying to get lucidity for 5 weeks as of today. I will never stop trying until I am able to LD at will. In the summers I usually complete 60% of all of the long term goals I have set. For example, in video games, if I want to achieve the highest level, I will do it, with the progress twofold. I learned the rubiks cube in the summer, and etc.

Just some advice for people who haven't gotten a lucid yet ^^
Keep trying, and let nothing push you back.

Yeah I notice I tend to breathe through my nose, and sometimes while awake I don't seem to get enough oxygen or whatever, but in my WILDing I seem calm and relaxed enough to breathe entirely through my nose, and feel my chest move up and down. I also feel my heart too, which can be relaxing, but after some aspects of SP starts to beat fast..I guess I'm not used to the process yet ;P

But Hijo de la Luna, you said snoring is an indication of how close or how you're interacting with SP...how so? I've noticed myself snoring a few times in the later stages after I suspect SP HAS taken its hold..is that when I try even harder to cross over into my dream?

EDIT: Oh breathing through my mouth tends to make me swallow more too, which I finds disrupts my attempts a bit. I think that might mainly be a personal thing, though.

First, I'm glad to hear you are listening to your inner guidance as to how is best to breath. It is a very personal thing for me.

To answer your question it has been my experience when I hear myself snoring I am about 5-10 minutes away from being able to separate. You might already be able to separate but once again I kind of have a feel for it. I fucked it up and still do sometimes; most often by falling unconscious here. This is where I learn vigilance.

I usually WILD via napping in the day. The most influential factor I have found is planning for adequate time and conditions. I choose a time when my room mate is asleep or isn't home. Usually around 2-3pm works well. When I am not in a rush and I am not concerned with losing sleep helps my success rate out immensely!

As for ClearView, those body asleep signals are very cool. pun intended he he he. but seriously, that sounds like a nice way to transition.

To the whole not moving things. In some techniques you turn over. I came really close using this method.

I have rolled over during WILDs and it has worked great to enter SP or straight into dreaming.
