The dream takes place at my grandfather's plantation home, which was built in the slave-era. In the front hallway, there's a staircase that leads to two upstairs bedrooms, the balcony, and the attic (see pictures). There's a landing halfway up the stairs, which is where the dream begins. I'm sitting on the landing with a co-worker, who is reconciling my grandfather's checkbook. I'm a bit creeped out, because I'm certain that the upstairs is haunted; and eventually, we're going to the attic, which has always freaked me out to some degree. As I'm sitting on the landing, I notice that I'm leaning close to this co-worker and that the wooden rail at the top of the stairs is missing.
Next, we're approaching the attic door, and I realize that we don't have a flashlight. But, we proceed anyway. I open the door, and there's an bipedal animal that's a cross between a hyena, ferrett, and a meerkat (like Timon from the Lion King) standing inside the attic. It was kind of menacing. I open my phone to shine a light on it, but it quickly disappears. We visually scan the area, and see something under a blanket breathing. I reach for something nearby to throw at the breathing blanket, and find that the item in my hand is a copy of the Holy Bible. I decide that I can't throw a bible at it, so I put it down. I then pick up some toys that I recognize from the attic so that I can throw them. But, I can't concentrate enough to throw them. The breathing thing then removes the blanket, and it's a young girl with straight blonde hair pulled back. She was somewhat homely looking, but attractive and probably nineteen or twenty. She looked like she existed a hundred years ago or so. I started saying something (can't remember) trying to get someone's attention, and woke myself up from the dream. As I awoke, I was having trouble speaking, but my talking is what woke me. I came out of the dream with some anxiety, and had it in my mind that a ghost was in my room. I chilled, and wrote down the dream.
