Importance of a consistant sleep schedule

So I have read that having a consistent sleep schedule is helpful, but how necessary is it for having lucid dreams?

Since I have school on the weekdays, I try to sleep from about 10-6 from Sunday-Thursday, but on the weekend I often stay up as late as 3am and sleep in until near noon.

Is this irregular sleep schedule a big hindrance in my attempt for having lucid dreams or is it just a minor setback?

I think it depends on the person. Without a solid sleep schedule I can barely even recall 1-2 dreams a night, let alone be aware enough to go lucid.

It is not necessary, but it is highly beneficial.

I too suffer from a sporadic sleep schedule, and it is a notable hindrance on my dreaming.

A regular sleep schedule will put your REM into a proper pattern, therefore making it easier to recall, and for purposes of WILD and WBTB, easier to predict.
