I have had this before also. Some people say it is just subconsious static, other people say it's sounds from the astral realms. Regardless it can be scary. However it isn't harmful so just try to ignore it. |

You always hear about seeing colors when you're lying in bed. But for me I also hear short "clips" of sound in my imagination, like all of a sudden somebody is saying part of a phrase, or I'll hear a sound. It's like my mind is tuning into some radio or something, and then it's gone. Yet I know it's in my mind; the sound isn't audible. It tends to happen when I've been lying there for quite a while, when I'm pretty tired. |

I doubt it's anything unnatural. If i'm trying to sleep I always hear them before i wake up, and they are usually just phrases i heard before or parts of songs. |

Actually, it can simply be another hallucination from sleep paralysis. It is actually quite common. Some people have these with their visual hallucinations (or hypnogogic imagery) while others can have them instead of the HI. It all depends on the individual. |

I hear those sounds too. I like the description of "short clips" because that's exactly what mine are like too. One that I get once in a while that really irritates me is a sound of brief knocking at the door. It almost always wakes me up because even though the probability that someone is actually knocking at the door is pretty low it wakes me up enough to start thinking about it. I also get a strange vibrating feeling in my neck and head. There's a tutorial that lists common Hypnogogic Hallucinations on this site: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=65425 |

It's basically hypnagogia. I myself hear music when falling asleep. |

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Yeah, it's definately interesting. I also forgot to mention that one of the main recurring sounds I "hear" is like someone tearing a paper towel off of a roll. I think some of the short imagined phrases may like echos of what I've heard people say within the last several days. |
