For the price (~$150) advertised on that site, you might as well go buy a NovaDreamer or other brand of goggle that was specifically designed to work with your REM cycles. It'd probably cost less in the end, and it would definitely be more reliable.

Well, thats a good idea, but there's one major problem: there is no cheap way to detect REM sleep. The sensors and electronics required would push the cost of the whole unit beyond the cost of the pre-made LD goggles that are available. While a person can easily identify the REM phase of sleep by observing eye movements, it would some somewhat expensive components and compex programming to have a machine do the same. But, I should mention that I'm no expert in the area, so I may be wrong.

Instead of using the system you linked to, at $150, why not save some money and just build a simple blinking light wired through the switch? A lot of money could probably be saved there, possibly bringing the price of the entire project into a reasonable range.

However, goggles are really just a stepping stone to lucidity, and one of many that can be used. With enough dedication and focus, it is possible to achieve LDs without such aids, and with at least the same frequency. Which raises the question: just how many people would be willing to shell out well over $100?
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

I'm not going to buy something like this. I'm in contact with electricity most of my time when I'm awake, and that's bad enough.

Depends, but I think you can find some for a bit cheaper than that. Maybe $200 ish if you found a good deal. Still, I'll stick with old-school LDing.

Basicly, cheap flashing led's at your eyes give you great HI. It's true, I tried it once at this festival like thingy. I think if you wore them when you would sleep you chance at a WILD would be bigger.

I dont think those particular glasses will be of much help. First off, they look like they're made of plastic which could easily break with constant use. Also, since there is no REM detection, you would need to modify the device to work with a computer or some custom controller. This adds extra wires and electronics that I think would make the device too bulky to wear during sleep. Judging from the chips on the novadreamer, I estimate that a product like that could be made for under $100 in parts and much less if it were put into production.
