      Post Chained Souls: Night Nine {Book Two of the Chained Duet}

      Night Nine

"Celfior," Talisen said politely. "Thank you."
      I blanked.
Celfior...Dashkoff...Pain...He was here, in front of me. Only, this was before he was Pain.
I felt like I was going to throw up right then and there. Was it even possible for things to get worse?
"Hey Cel," someone said, emerging from the trees, "ya know you should really tell someone when you're going to run like that."
I blinked as I met a boy who was also very familiar to me.
Epimetheus's brother, Prometheus, looked us all over. I knew him from my childhood and he had a sort of thing for me. It never went anywhere seeing how he was nearly six years older than me.
He was the spitting immage of his brother only he looked older and his features were more defined. And he was taller by about three inches.
"Prome," Celfior said, nodding in agreement. "If I wouldn't have ran, this girl would've been anaconda chow."
I just wanted to sink into a hole and die.
"We better get you into something warmer before you get hypothermia," Talisen said, helping me to my feet. "You're pale...You might be coming down with something."
Yes, like past-fever or hypopastinitis. Or a serious case of twisted-reincarnation. Instead of a soul going forward, it went back. How nice, hmm?
"I think it's just the snake attack," I said finally, gathering my clothes before I glanced at Celfior and Prometheus. "Are they coming with us?"
"Sure," Celfior said, grinning. "We need to hit up the town and find out some new info."
When I would get back to my time--whenever that might be--I would kiss Pain senseless for being Pain.

Signit fashioned me in some form of jeans and a t-shirt only they were skin tight and hard to breathe in when we reached home. The males--save Cult and Talisen--were entertained by my attempts of moving.
In the end I was happy wearing some of Signits clothing. At least then the only issue was the chest.
"So how long are you three staying?" Signit asked as we sat in a circle. "Just a night or more?"
"We're expecting reconaissance with Jennifer and Helius," Celfior said calmly, tucking his hands behind his head and leaning against the trunk of one of teh trees making up the house, "in about two days, I think."
Prometheus nodded and I felt myself pale. Two days...of pure Hell...joy.
I blinked as realization set in at what he's said.
We're expecting reconaissance with Jennifer and Helius in about two days, I think.
      Jennifer and Helius.
I stood up abruptly and grabbed Talisen's wrist. He followed me into a standing position.
"I need to talk to you," I said quickly. "Signit, you too."
Signit followed us out as the others stared after us in confusion before returning to light conversation.
"I need to get out of here before they get here," I said immediately. Signit was the only one out of the two to not give me a confused look. "If I meet my mom and Helios...it's hard to tell what will happen."
"Things won't turn out well," Signit said, crossing her arms. "I don't know how to get you back to your time, though..."
"You came in the grotto," Talisen offered. "You might be able to get back that way."
"I would've left shortly after being here if it was that," I said, cutting down his idea. "And, then again, seeing my mom might be the key to me getting back to my time."
They mumbled their own maybes before we decided to go back inside to rejoin the conversations the blind three inside were having.
Signit caught my wrist, allowing Talisen to enter alone and I turned and faced her in confusion.
      "Sig--"
"You need to be careful around Celfior," she warned, squeezing my wrist lightly. It was more a show of affection than anything else. "He's a bounty hunter. He'll do just about anything to get something worth a little bit of money.
      "He can't be trusted."
"He's Pain," I whispered painfully. "He'll eventually get taken over by the evil Pain..."
      "Pandora..."
Signit's eyes softened and she hugged me tightly, murmuring that everything would be okay, even though we both knew it was a lie.
We went back to join the others and it was only a short time later that we were all spilt into seperate rooms. In the end, we doubled up. As karma would have it, I was paired up with Celfior.
Drawing straws sucked when it came to...well, to anything.
"So we're gonna be bedding tonight?"
I jerked my gaze to him.
"Like Hell we are!" I cried out, feelin my cheeks heat. "I am not sleeping with you!"
He looked hurt and then he blinked, realization crossing through his blood eyes before he started to laugh.
"I mean sleeping in the same room," he laughed, resuming the position he'd taken in the main room across my room. He looked like a cat lazing around. A big, lethal cat. "Geez, you take things too fully."
My cheeks grew hotter and I ended up laying down to go to sleep.
"Just go to bed and shut up," I sighed roughly. "I'm actually tired, unlike some people."
I heard the soft movements of clothing before his body pressed against mine.
"Who said I wasn't tired?" he whispered seductively. "Who's saying I don't want to sleep with you in my arms?"
I looked at him and he jerked back, jumping halfway across the room as he let out a string of curses.
      I looked at him, confused.
His eyes widened as he doubled over, his body twisting into shapes that probably shouldn't have been possible for anyone as he screamed. I heard his bones snap as he screamed, blood pooling from cuts that didn't exist.
"Celfior?!" I yelled, running across the room to his side.
He screamed, clawing at his skin as he writhed.
He threw his head back, letting out an animalistic cry, before he fell. The movement made it look as if he was folding in on himself, his limbs twisted and bent out of place. Every bone looked broken.
"Ce-Celfior?" I breathed, as I leaned over him.
      He wasn't breathing.
I touched him gently, opening my mouth to say his name again, when his eyes snapped open.
"Celfior?" I squeaked as he stood.
He towered over me, blood eyes blazing a deeper color than I'd ever seen. He was intimidating as he stood above me, simply watching me.
"That is not my name," he growled. "My name is--"
"Pain," I interrupted, my gaze fixed. "Your name is Pain."
Pain looked at me, confused before what I guessed to be Pain assailed him again and he clutched his chest, his free hand tangling in his hair.
"Dammit!!" he growled, eyes glaring at me.
I couldn't respond as he tackled me, throwing us both to the ground, as he pinned me, both of my hands at the level of my eyes.
      "Pai--"
He cut me off as he crushed his lips to mine.
I felt my eyes widen as he kissed me harshly, keeping me pinned. I couldn't help but kiss him back.
A scream cut us off from going any farther and, in the next moment, Pain disappeared.
I ran into the pain room and saw Cult writhing on the floor as I realized what was happening.
The evils were taking them over.
Cult, covered in blood, was scream as he clawed at something that wasn't there.
"Becautiful girl," someone whispered. "You could rule who livesss tonight...You would like that wouldn't you? It would be niccce. Only a little pain isss the priccce to pay."
"Not...gonna...happen," I gritted out at the evils inside of me responded to the evil speaking. "So shut up!"
The evil hissed and my gaze unclouded from the haze I'd been thrown into to see Cult--Doubt--standing, his eyes strategizing like I'd seen then when he'd kidnapped me.
"You are not from here, are you?" he asked. He responded immediately. "I highly doubt you'll tell me the truth, but so be it. I must find Signit."
"I'm right here, brother," I heard Signit say from behind me.
She crossed the space to stand directly in front of Doubt, her gaze fixed on him as he held onto her upper arms, his eyes softening.
"I wish I could've said this earlier," he said calmly, "but I didn't. I doubt you'll have the same feelings but that doesn't change--"
She cut him off with a kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck to deepen the kiss. Doubt, though startled, wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her back.
"Don't strategize so much," she said gently. "Don't let Doubt fully cloud your judgement, Cult."
Another scream cut Doubt off from saying anything and ice slipped through my veins as I realized that the other evil had finally taken a prey it found worthy of it.
The three of us ran into Talisen's room as the final hints of his transformations were happening.
Signit grabbed my wrist and pulled me back.
"No matter what happens, don't interfere," she said quickly. "Because something very bady is about to happen."
Death stood and I watched as his hair lengthened to his waist and grew darker until it settled on black. His eyes opened and his eyes now blazed a brighter emerald than I'd ever seen before.
"Talisen," Doubt said, startled. "How...why would you choose this?! This was my idea! I asked the evils to take over Celfior, Signit and I! How could you do this?!"
Death's eyes blazed even harsher than before and I winced as he suddenly appeared in front of us.
"This is a death sentence," he said quietly, a threat very evident in his familiar, soft tone. "You killed us all."
Death was instantly behind Signit, his hand entering through her back to clutch her heart. Her eyes widened and she gasped, arching.
Death narrowed his eyes as he tightened his hold on her heart, causing her to whimper.
      "NO!!" Doubt cried out.
"You did this to her," he said coldly, his eyes narrowed to cat-like slits filled with hate. "This is your fault. You brought this upon us."
      "Sig--"
      "N-No, Pan...dora," she croaked. "D-Don't...inter...fere."
Death jerked his hand out, pulling her heart with it, and she fell to the ground like a sick marionette who'd just had its strings cut.
      "SIGNIT!!!!"
Doubt fell to his knees and pulled Signit into his arms, hugging her to him as tears cascaded down his cheeks and onto her own. It was almost as if she herself was crying.
Signit's eyes were open and staring vacantly at nothing. There was no trace of life in them whatsoever.
Doubt whispered her name over and over while Death tossed her heart to the side, shaking the blood off of his hands as he looked at Doubt as if he was a child.
It was the coldest look I'd ever seen Death have. He always seemed...sad...this was a side of him I'd never seen of him.
This was the true side of Death--the ruthlessness. He was meant to be like this...so how did he end up become how he was to me?
"She's dead so you can stop crying unless you'd like to join her," Death said rationally. "Which I'll gladly do."
Doubt set Signit's body down easily before turning on his brother, snarling as he attacked him, sending Death flying into a tree trunk.
Death was on him in the next second, lashing out at him. Their movements were too swift for my movements to follow until the end.
Doubt had Death pinned against a tree, nails digging into his throat. If Death moved or Doubt moved his hand just the right way, he could easily shred Death's jugular.
"You killed her!!" he roared. "Your own sister!!"
"She was nothing," Death said calmly, as if he wasn't on the verge of death himself.
"How can you say that!!" he cried out angrily. He was quickly loosing it. "I should kill you!!"
"That would make you no better than me."
Doubt shook violently, trying to quell the anger that he felt before his gaze returned to his brothers.
      "Pandora..."
I turned and saw Prometheus, his eyes focused on me.
"You don't need to see this," he said calmly. "You need to go home."
      I blinked.
"How do you know?" I asked, confused.
"Let's jus' say I've made my travels and Signit told me a thing 'er to," he said carefully. "Now you need to leave."
I was getting ready to ask how when, without warning, I felt a knife slide between my ribs, not deep but enough that it hurt like Hell.
"Prom...ethe...us," I choked out asmy vision blurred.
"You'll thank me for it later," he promised.
I was able to see one last glance of Signit, Doubt, and Death, before I blacked out.

Yikes, an interesting set of events indeed. Seems I was correct about Cult being Doubt, but wrong about Signit being Greed. Based on some observations, I have a feeling there was a profound reason why Death/Talisen eradicated Signit.

A couple of mistakes I spotted:

Uhm, well, honestly there was no real reason that I finished off Signit other than the fact that I needed a way to show why Doubt is...well, neutral feeling, you could say. I might have her show up as a goddess, maybe so I'm not sure if you'll see her again.

She was an interesting character while she lasted.
