      Experimenting with Photography

Advice, tips, ideas, and constructive critisism is welcome (and pretty much desired).

Also, if you'd like to see any of them larger, I'll post a larger version.

<EDIT: Also, I don't know if they show up really blurry for you or not, they do for me, but that's because of AOL, if they do, I'll try to re-upload them>

      Nice

      Hi Courtney!
I see that you are engaging in several aspects of art. That is great!
How did your drawing come out?

So what do you think of your experimentation with photography?
One cool thing about drawing/painting, etc. and photography is that the key element of composition is pretty much the same for both. So once you learn that you can dabble with all kinds of mediums.
      Have FUN!

Wow, nice lighting and great composition. I love the one of the girl (you?) holding the dandelion. Great colors, there, and nice lighting and shading. The boy and the dog is a nice portrait-style photo, too. Classic.

Also, the section of violin: I love this one. It's a fresh angle and perspective on a common object. I'm a sucker for photography like this.

These are great, especially so if you're just experimenting. From these photos, it looks like you have a good eye so keep it up!

Love your work - thank you for posting it.

As I go down the line, your awareness of lighting seems to improve. Is there a chronology there?

What are you shooting? Camera? Lens? Give us some details!

I dont' think there's chronology. But I don't use flash.

My camera is a Canon PowerShot A520, 4.0 Mega pixels, and a 4x zoom lens

Hey! I have the same camera as you, Courtney! Anyway, I LOVE the violin one. It's beautiful. I also like the cat and the beer bottle ones. You are talented. Anyway, all of them were really neat.

Nice work Courtney. The framing of the subjects is great (golden rule). It makes me want to get the camera out again. Perhaps I could be so bold as to throw out a couple suggestions. Have you tried working with the lines in the composition to bring the subject into context? For example, the 'S' shaped line in the violin is said to give the viewer a feeling of serenity or peace, where 90 degree lines emphasize proportion and draw the eyes up, or sideways (depending on the line), and 45 degree lines are really good pointers to emphasize a certain focus point. They can be used to emphasize what the viewer is supposed to see. Also, have you tried some shots about an hour before sunset? The golden red light gives amazing qualities to the colors (on film anyway).

Those are some great shots... thanks for showing them!

Awesome, Gwen. I heart that camera. The functions menu is awesoome. Tungsten + B&W = <33 And that's actually a cream soda bottle, btw.

And I'm actually an art student too, Phowa. I should probably know about that stuff, but it tends to confuse me.
