      Hello, fellow DVers!

Here, as suggested by the title of this thread, you will find some of my art!

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, I've been taking lessons for over five years and I go to an art school, so art is a big part of my life.

Like a lot of other people, I am a lot better at copying images than I am at thinking of my own compositions. In fact, I've recently done a lot of really cool (imho) Gustav Klimt drawings, but I'll try and resist the temptation of posting them here.

Unfortunately I don't have a digital camera so you'll have to deal with my webcam and my eight-year-old scanner.

Sooooo here we have a recent oil painting of mine!:

Despite the file name, it isn't actually called "huge god dude"

Wow that's actually really great. Surreal-ish. And yeah I love Oil paint. I wish I could one day learn to paint with it. I've never been much of a painter but I'm taking a workshop on it.

That's brilliant. I agree with SKA, it looks like surreal artwork. I'll be looking forward too seeing more of your drawings.

I actually don't like painting in oil very much, it's like a struggle. But I usually like the outcome, so learning to paint with it is probably worth it.

Haha, what made you think I think lowly of myself?

Don't be so hard on yourself!
Wow, I have no idea how long I've been painting in oil for. Maybe two years, a year and a half?

I like to think that it IS surreal artwork.

It's kinda weird because virtually none of my art is inspired by my dreams, but I get really inspired by the surrealists who based a lot of their artwork on dreams.

Hot off the press - random ballpoint pen drawing of Syd Barrett!

I know I was all "I'll try and post original compositions as much as possible" in the first post, but I get kinda excited immediately after drawing something so you'll have to excuse me.

I hate the way the ballpoint pen is reflected when I scan this one. If you kinda squint at the thumbnail you can make it disappear, though.

You called yourself a nut for not drawing inspiration from dreams earlier
And as long as you're learning AND enjoying painting with oil paint it's always worth it. But most important is that you enjoy being busy on the work. Love the title you gave it it indeed is like a Great god dude guzzling up a world...or Spitting out, depending on how you interpret it well what's the real title you gave it then?

But that really is kinda nutty!! Not being inspired by dreams? That totally raises some eyebrows and a "wtf" at the very least.

I actually took a pretty long time with this one and I got really bored of it and everything.

I don't think I even gave it a real title.

as for "like a Great god dude guzzling up a world...or Spitting out, depending on how you interpret it ", I think I had a passage from some book that described it nicely but I HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL so I'll find all that later.

HA! It took me like half an hour but I finally found the passage!!

There is the story of baby Krishna, wrongly accused by his friends of eating a bit of dirt. His foster mother, Yashoda, comes up to him with a wagging finger. "You shouldn't eat dirt, you naughty boy," she scolds him. "But I haven't," says the unchallenged lord of all and everything, in sport disguised as a frightened human child. "Tut! Tut! Open your mouth," orders Yashoda. Krishna does as he is told. He opens his mouth. Yashoda gasps. She sees in Krishna's mouth the whole complete entire timeless universe, all the stars and planets of space and the distance between them, all the lands and seas of the earth and the life in them; she sees all the days of yesterday and all the days of tomorrow; she sees all ideas and all emotions, all pity and all hope, and the three strands of matter; not a pebble, candle, creature, village or galaxy is missing, including herself and every bit of dirt in its truthful place. "My Lord, you can close your mouth," she says reverently.[/b]
      (Y. Martel, Life of Pi, p. 60)

      Amen, brotha'!

And here we have some drawings from my sketchbook:

      1)

I was listening to the radio and this image kept
popping up in my head, so I drew it.
      Left: the original.
Right: the original after being put
through a Photoshop filter (because the
technique was horrible in the original and the
filter makes it look a bit more like I want it to
      look.)

      2)

      Left:Random doodle in ballpoint pen.
Right: A doodle I did in Paint a
      while ago that inspired this.

I also tried to draw this in Photoshop but I'm
      hopeless at CGing.

      3) "Nosebleed"

I've done quite a few variations on this theme,
so if anyone wants to see more I'll be more than
      happy to oblige.

      4)"Harry, You're A Beast"

I was doodling this crazy lady in my sketchbook
while listening to music. Frank Zappa's "Harry,
You're A Beast" came on and I realized that it went
along nicely with the doodle so I added the lyrics.
Listening to this song is a must.
But seriously, I'm sure I'm not the only one who
hates reading lyrics without knowing how the song
      goes.

      5)

Here is a page out of my sketchbook -- I was
copying random art out of a Edvard Munch book.

If anyone wants to see the original pieces, I'll post
them up if you bug me enough about it.

And here is a lovely website I stumbled upon today.
Just looking at the home page blows my mind
(the links are all confusing and sometimes in
other languages, so I settle for looking at the
      home page.)

Not my cup of tea, but you certainly have talent! The ballpoint drawing was great by the way. The surreal silly stuff could hang in a museum.

      Thanks a lot!!

Sorry I took about two years to reply, I didn't want to post until I had some new art.

Here is my last painting -- oil on canvas board, 12" x 16":

This was a blatant ripoff of a painting by Klimt - Salome (Judith II)

Luckily this one wasn't too large to scan, although I had to make four scans and then put them all together in Photoshop, which I did very halfassedly.

Right now I am working on a blatant ripoff of an Impressionist painting.

What could I say? Nice, nice but isn't it a bit far away of reality? But of course we're on the dreams forum.

I don't think art is ever entirely about reality, not even when it's realism.

Hehe, besides, I've been doing realism for a couple of years now and I'm finally starting to explore everything else.

Damn good artwork. I wish I could draw like that. Who cares if it's a copy, if it's a well done copy. Personally I think just being able to copy something that well deserves credit.

      Thank you!!

Speaking of copies, I finished the Renoir piece on Thursday, but the bloke's still drying, so I can't scan him yet.

Here are two rather pointless images, though:

This is "Mr. Bean" - I doodled him up today.
The composition and the background kinda suck, but it was incredibly fun to draw.

I made this guy by (almost) burning paper with incense. The incense is really cheap, which is probably why the smoke leaves pink marks on things.
This isn't necessarily art, I just thought it was an interesting and aesthetically pleasing way to leave marks on paper
Unfortunately there was writing on the other side of the paper that showed up in the scan (you can't really see it irl)

I did this about a month ago. Oil on canvas board - a copy of a piece by Renoir. The title escapes me right now.

Oil on newspaper (&#33. I messed around with the contrast/brightness in Photoshop because the scan just didn't look as good as the piece does irl but that made it look a bit funky.
This was really frustrating to paint because when the paint was wet it was super-shiny and I could barely see what I was doing.
