So, some of you know me for my illustration stuff that I do on my own - sort of on the side. But every now and then a project comes up in my day job that gives me the opportunity to try some other medium that I don't get to play with often. This time it was 3D stuff.
The project summary:
Concepts for installation of fifty 45" LCD screens along a "skyway" (walkway that connects buildings).
Limitations:
Can't drill or cut into existing structural beams.
Can't hang from ceiling (due to hollow air ducts above).
Can't let displays hang out into the walk space.
So, with all this in mind my former boss and I came up with a proposal which involved housing the displays in "kiosks" - or structural units which would also be used to house the computer that would run the screens. This idea, however, was apparently not what the CEO had invisioned (or so we were told).
The following is the result of about two weeks of planning. I did all the modeling and rendering in Strata 3D Studio Pro.
Initial kiosk concept (still submitted as an option):
Revised concept (without kiosks):
Finalized mounting option (metal backing and plexi backing):
Using plexi backing along window bridge to preserve lighting:
Proposed assembly order:
Touch screen kiosks (6 displays have a touchscreen, so I came up with a new simplified design):
That's the gist of it. Someday, if this all goes through I'll post pics of the finished product.
