      Hello, all!

I have been wanting to try out a game of exquisite corpse for quite some while now, and I'm sure I'll find people to collaborate with here at DV.

For those of you who do not know what Exquisite Corpse is, it is essentially an artistic collaboration between two or more people who usually have little or no knowledge of what the other(s) is/are doing. They only exchange enough information to enable themselves to fuse their work seamlessly.

Haha, I've never been good at explaining things, so here is the Wikipedia entry, which will hopefully clear things up.

The beauty of Exquisite Corpse is that it can be applied to all kinds of forms of self-expression: visual art, poetry, music, film -- you name it!

Here is a wonderful example of people using the Exquisite Corpse technique in visual art.

While browsing around some website I came upon this:
in animation, they will often give a single frame (i.e. a drawing of a character) to several different animators and then give them 30 seconds to animate whatever they want to happen to that character, so long as it starts and ends in the same point. then all the different pieces are strung together creating something that no single person would ever have imagined. it's a great way to create something new. [/b]
Now, I don't know about the 30 second thing, but this is certainly something I'd want to try.

This will probably be a stick figure animation in .gif (I'm Flash-retarded), and nothing too serious.

Anyways, feel free to post any ideas/concerns you have and to look for collaborators in other mediums if you reeeaaally don't wanna work with me!

      Cheers!

Hah, i remember doing those kind of sketches as a kid, where you draw a little something then fold the page over, leaving naught but a couple of lines for continuity. Forgot all about it til now though. I like the concept a lot, and that deviant art picture is awesome. Can't say i have the inclination to participate in your gif animation, but it sounds cool. I'd be more interested in musical application of the idea. Not that i could physically participate in that on a forum, but the idea is interesting!

You could apply it to writing, that would be really easy over the internet right?

Yeah, exquisite corpse is difficult over the internet, but I think the gif one is one of the more doable applications.

Actually, I found a nice sound one a while ago, which is doable on a forum... kinda.

Yes, it would be pretty easy. If anyone else wants to do it, this could turn into a writing thing instead.
Too bad I'm not much of a writer.

I don't have any means to record at the moment though, otherwise i'd love to try a music one.

It was actually originally an idea for writing? I think. I remember reading about dadaists ripping texts apart so that only tiny pieces with words on them were left, then scrambling them up in a hat and taking one out at a time, re-writing it in that order.

Are you having a holy moment?

Reminds me of the game you see on some internet forums, where users post single words in a single post, and then the next person posts a word and so forth in order to construct a story. Of course, the users can see the story so far if they care to read it, and so i guess it's not a true example of Exquisite Corpse, but it's close.

Yeah, I didn't really go for the writing thing cause I didn't want it to turn into just another forum game.

I guess I'll start the GIF thing soon because people are more likely to participate if they can see the first frame andstuff, whereas this thread isn't going anywhere so far (everyone is pretty divided in terms of what they want to do)

That reminds me of some website I visited yesterday. It's like an online version of that technique. The results are always kinda weird, though.

Aaaaaah I almost forgot to post the image - I'm going to San Francisco soon so I have other things on my mind. I'll be back in about a week.

Anyway, I decided to go for something that's very easy to manipulate-

So basically, anyone who wants to can turn this baby into a mini GIF animation.

I'd appreciate it if you guys stuck to black and white, unless using colour will really really add to your animation.

Make sure the first and last frames are that crazy circle thing up there ^

Use your best judgement with the length of the animation.

Lastly, I think it would be best if you post a link to your GIF, as opposed to posting it directly in the thread. That way if people want to make one without seeing anybody else's they are free to do so.

      Have fun!!
