Volleyball Mural (in progress)

Yeah, so I promised I'd eventually post pictures of it. It's still only just begun, but it should be done by the end of the month. Currently I've put in about 13 hours of work into it. Well, more like ten, since I spend most of the time getting sidetracked and tripping over my chair. Face needs more work, and I haven't really even started on the background yet. Also, I need to get somebody to pose for me, since the foot was cut out of the original photograph, so I need a reference to draw it in...

It's funny how much of your project completion time gets eaten up by other, random shit, isn't it? lol

As far as the foot, what might help is to google something like "tennis shoes" or even volley ball, and check out the images. Run through them for a little while till you find something that matches (or is as close as possible to) the foot pose that you're making. If you can't find something online, a model would be good too, but finding/printing an internet pic might be more time-efficient.

Thanks for the tip, I just Google'd it and found a shoe that'll work fine. I'll just sketch it in and paint it tomorrow, perhaps take another picture, depending on how much farther I get, and post it all up here.

Alright.

Decided I may as well turn this into a progressing thread. I work on the painting every weekday, three hours one day, one and a half the next, back to three, etc. Today I put in about a half hour's work. Maybe an hour. Tops. I really slacked off, since this was a three-hour day. Additions highlighted with yellow.

EDIT: BTW, forgot to thank Big O for the idea about googling the shoe. I think I'm going to make it a bit bigger, but it looks good otherwise.

It does look good as is, but I agree on maybe making it just a little bigger.

[Edit: I know jack shi0t about painting. Is that already painted in, or did you photoshop it to see how it would look? If it is painted in, how hard is it to paint over something if you decide you do want to change it? I ask because I've been thinking about expanding to paint, but I have absolutely no experience with it.]

Anyway, to answer O, it's not too hard to go back and change stuff. It might give me a little trouble because I'll be putting white where black used to be, but it's still pretty easy. Just wait for the paint to dry, and put another rough coat over it (Just block in the image you'll be putting over it, no sense in doing detail yet). After you've let that first coat dry, go back and paint your new layer on, details and all. Should show up fine, I've had to do it several times before. The acrylics are pretty opaque, so once you put a layer or two over it, the original's pretty much invisible.

Nice work, again, Tsen. I especially like the reflections on the floor. And I'd agree that the shoe could stand to be just a little bigger.

I fixed some of the floor and made the main girl a bit skinnier today (In the original the shirt was really baggy, but it made her look almost pregnant when I blew up the picture to paint it, so I trimmed it down a little) It's not a major change, because in the past versions I hadn't filled in the whole area her shirt was supposed to occupy. If you look closely at the first two, you can see a little pencil line just below where the shirt ends. That's where the shirt was supposed to go to. The brown marks I sort of stippled in over the top of her shirt's what I shaved off today. Again, not a major change. I also blocked in the volleyball and did some work on the background. Camera's out of batteries for the moment, though, so I'll be back in a few minutes to post the picture of the new changes.

EDIT: Shoe looks worse from this angle. Still haven't fixed it yet, but I'm going to turn it slightly as well as enlarging it.

Okay, I forgot the camera today. I finished the wood floor almost entirely, including reflections, though I'll still have to touch up parts and fill in a few small gaps. I painted over the foot and sketched a new one over it, but didn't get to painting it before class ended.

Ugh. I really need to update this.

No promises, though. I'm still at school, and I'll be stuck here until 5:30. The camera's in my pocket, and I've got three new pictures to post, but I don't have my firewire on me, so I can't transfer 'em, and I've got to get to work in a couple of minutes anyways.
Anyway, work's going good on it. Got mad at a couple of the background faces and scribbled them out, scribbled out a shoe while I was at it. The shoe on the main girl in the picture is finished though, and looks pretty good this time.
I'll try to post the pictures tonight, IF I can get the internet back.

Okay, here's all the stuff I've been too lazy to post.

Here's the one with the finished floor and foot. That was yesterday.

Here's a cynical little detail on the foot:

Yeah. Got in a religious argument with the teacher and three students. The teacher wasn't really into it, she didn't care too much. The other kids were all crazy-religious though, so I stuck that in, just for them.

Finally, here's today's. I was actually productive today, mostly 'cuz there was only one other kid in the class at the time and I'm less than friends with him, so there was nobody to distract me. Oh, and I had caffeine, which made me happy and want to work. And occasionally want to do cartwheels.

Btw, I TOTALLY am not finishing. I have Mon-Wednesday to finish.

I'm supposed to be coming back next year to work on it, but twenty bucks says the teacher either finishes it herself or paints over it (she did that to one girl's basketball mural that was way-super-awesome).
