Thread: A Dv Animation?

I think executed very carefully, this could be a good idea. Get it wrong and you'll really boob up the view of LDing. You'd need to take some very careful steps to make sure it doesn't seem more like propaganda or something.

"Come LD! LDing is lovely! What have you done half your life? Want to be put through dodgy hazing rituals and have the mark of the beast branded on your arm?"

EDIT: Catchphrases. How about, "Dreamviews. Now offers bed-wetting insurance?"

Don't make it to 'floaty' too, try to keep it scientific, rational. Don't say 'Lucid dreaming is the pathway to the 4th demension of love and reincarnated hamsters, open your 3rd eye and behold the magical white substance of the ancient gods'.

That would suck.

Use cool slow-motion-stuff too.

Slowmotion footage rocks.

Good idea. But, as Kaniaz said, you don't want it to be like propoganda. As Neuro said, not too floaty. A bit floaty is okay, but keep it rational.

Some phrases:
"You sleep 1/3 of your life away. What if you could get that lost time back?"
"Live the Dream"
"Your world, Your Rules"

mmmm those are good.

And don't worry about how it gonna turn out. I'm gonna end up planning and re-planning this till its perfect XD. I love planning these things out for some reason. It's what I do. I'm aiming to first attract attention first. offer facts and questions that intruige without scaring the viewer away. Then, quickly afterwards I'll present information and analogies to retain their belief. Then, i'll build on that to try and express the full potential of lucid dreaming and wrap it up with links and info on how to start etc.

I've also been searching for appropriate music.

What if we had a fast-paced animation that sumarizes Lucid Dreaming and promotes this site? It would educate people on LDs while retaining their attention and make them want to learn more.[/b]

Hey Arby and thanks for the suggestion. Actually, I had started something like this to help out a member who has their own lucid dreaming site. His idea was to have the animation translated into different languages as well. Unfortunately, I got really busy with other projeccts in life, and well - I had to put it aside.

I am hoping to have the chance to finish it, though, as well as some other pieces that I think might enhance the site for new users as well as veterans.

Its a totally differnt direction then what i'm intending. I'm thinking of a video that more or less screams "I'm an attention whore" and presents LDing in a positive light and in a way that people can relate to. Yours is much more scientific and is focused more towards people who think that LDs are something they are interested in already. I'm trying to make something that will get someone interested in LDs =)

It does look good for whats its intended to do though and its really well made. I'd suggest adding technique names tho.

I also worked out a possible intro sequence.

I think it sets the viewer up for lucid dreaming nicely and doesn&#39;t scare them off too badly. Dreaming? Everyone can relate to that.

Very crude. Its a rush-first draft type job. All graphics are simpy to show what sort of thing will be going on. In no way do I hope that the final will look that bad. lol

Artists/animators? This could work well so I really want to get started on it =D. Lets put DV and LDing on the map.

Suggestion:

#1: How do you spend that 1/3 of your life?
#2: At the end have "Live the Dream"
#3: Also at the end, promote DV via the DV banner or the pic on the homepage of the blue bridge and the man) with the messege "Are you Dreaming?" and have it linked to DV with the actual URL of DV underneath.


The music is perfect. Thats amazing. I also really, really liked Bastion of Dreams. And you definatly seem to have the right idea. I&#39;d help, but my art skill is just as bad.

I liked the music. A lot. XD. That&#39;s pretty much drawed me in. Reminded me of Myst.

I was honestly considering doing this myself. Not really anything lucid dream related, but more of a relatively long flash animation of a dream. I was imagining it and it seemed like it would come out sick..

Lengthened it a bit. Not really happy with the end. Probably will re-do it. I like the way that LDing is introduced tho. No bells and whistles, no floatyness. Its a natural part of dreams and anyone can do it =D

I&#39;ll sleep on it and work on it when i get my next chance.... which will probably be monday >.< Stupid busy schedule... I should be able to book off life for this kind of thing =P

And casualtie, you can get ADOBE flash (it was bought out XD) trial from the adobe website. It lasts 30 days.

Well you&#39;re right, as I mentioned this was created for a different purpose. I totally see what you&#39;re talking about, though. You&#39;re proposing something with a bit more drama - something more like a movie trailer (I love those&#33. As a matter of fact I posted a little "movie tralier" on here a long time ago... I&#39;ll see if I can dig it up.

You&#39;ve built up a nice mood with the text and sound in the intro. What you might want to do is put together a storyboard or animatic (which you seem to have already started here) - this way other artists and designers can help you out with creating the visuals and submit their creations.

This could be a pretty cool collaboratiion. I&#39;m a designer and create motion graphics for a lliving so if anyone comes up with a really great concept that just needs production they&#39;re not capable of doing (like special effects or 3D animation) I can help out.

and indeed: you&#39;d also need to make some kind of commercial for dreamviews in it...

Bastion of Dreams = best song for our purpose in that list in my opinion.

The thing with an animation like this, is that you don&#39;t want it to seem cheap. You need 3D modeling or CGI.

That could get long, difficult, and expensive though...

Joe, I might take you up on that offer =D. Now we need to decide what we want the scenes to be.

Ideas anyone? We need scenes that demonstrate the dreamer in control of the dream. Materializing swords, stoping bullets and exploding stuff with the power of their mind is the type of thing we need.

Yup - 3D animation can quickly look like cheese if not used right. Mainly because it&#39;s used so much now that everyone recognizes it. You got the eyecandy when used in supergraphics and intro&#39;s for tv (like Entertainment Tonight, Nightline, CNN, etc). Then you have the realism application (special effects for movies, car commercials, etc).

The eyecandy can come across as cheese in this instance - and realism takes a lot of know-how and sometimes sophisticated software to achieve (not to mention labor&#33

Anyway, I think some of the most interesting graphics I&#39;ve seen are the kind that combine both. The opening credits to the movie "Mirror Mask" is a good example. Then there&#39;s this movie I saw once about a year or so ago, can&#39;t remember the name for sure - I think it was "Fast Forward" - but the whole thing was animated and was made to look like video and film being projected on oragami and all kinds of paper cutouts, really cool. If I could only find the link to it I&#39;d share.
