Painting of Dreams from Sandman comics

Just finished this painting of Dreams or Morpheus from the Sandman comics by Neil Gaiman. I just started reading them a while ago.

He is in a good mood sending erotic dreams to everyone. At first I painted him nude but the male member has not ever been, nor ever will be, very pretty and I couldn't get it to look quite right so I covered it up. I think it is sexier this way.

Head and torso referenced from a romance novel the rest of the figure, fabric, nebula, and bubbles, and hair all freehanded with no reference. I did look at a picture of a nebula to get me started and a picture of thehumanform.deviantart.com's feet to be able to paint some toes though they are not an exact copy of that picture.

Larger picture on my DA account.

      Hope you like it.

      :-)

Fantastic painting! I have to admit I chuckled a bit at the penis bulge at first before I read your post entirely.

Great work, I'm checking out your DA gallery now, very impressed.
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

I was under the impression that Morpheus was a hairless alabaster sort of fellow, so should he really have a treasure trail?

      Nice work.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

We can but dream, can't we? And he has a huge amount of unruly hair on his head so I thought, why not? And I thought it was called a 'goodie trail' :-)

Its not wrong is it? Should I just not have it there? I was going for something sensual but I could have not done the whole work quite right. I am always nervous about that sort of thing as just about everything I do gets criticized in a bad way like I am wrong for even having any feelings of any sort, sensual ones especially.

      *shrug* whatever, can't please everyone.

Morpheus's appearance changes to match peoples' expectations. Doesn't he even turn into a cat when he's with Bast? In an erotic setting, I'm sure he would appear more powerfully masculine, as he does in your painting.

I've always thought of his gender as sort of ambiguous. Similar to his sisters Death and (especially) Desire. I guess that is how he would appear to me.

I don't know if I'll ever look at Shift's avatar the same way, again

Yeah, except for when he is in the land of dreams in his own castle I guess. Remember reading a story about the keys to hell and he's talking to Bast and he's not wearing the cat face and she remarks on that. Yet she's not wearing a bra and definately ain't got no cat boobs.

I think I'll reduce the member.

I like the bulge tbh, definitely gives a sensual feeling to the painting, and that it's just under the material creates a great atmosphere.

Yeah, I liked it also, but there might have been a valid reason why it would not have been proper or something, I dunno. I've already got another Dream idea for a painting so this time I don't think there'll be any 'problems'.

Your sig is hillarious :-) I think the modern translation would be: You rock.

I don't think genitalia in general is very pretty... God/Science has a weird sense of humour. Sex is one of the weirdest things I know.

As for the painting, it's fantastic. Wonderful. The fabric makes the bulge somewhat subtle, and a little less erotic and more poetic. I like.

Starry starry night, paint your pallet blue and gray,
Look out on a summers day,
with eyes that know the darkness of my soul.

:-) I think the same thing.

Thanks. I was hoping it would be a good painting. I liked it, but not sure if I had looked at it so long that I wasn't noticing some really obvious things I could do better.

Now I can finally paint Alain Grimsbane a vampyre OC I created.
