      Slayer's coloring thread!

*NOTE: None of the pictures in this thread were drawn by me! I recently bought an anime/manga coloring book that comes with blank lineart pictures that you can use to color in.*

Wanted to try out my coloring skills again...since I'm not very good at it. I think this picture is coming along great so far. What do you guys thing? I've only been working on the skirt.

Now that I look at it, I'm probably going to re-do the shading on the skirt. It seems to "jointed"

A whole helluva lot better than I can color. Then again, I don't even have Photoshop, the most basic of art programs. (I've got Paint Shop Pro, but it's anything but pro.)

The gradients look kind of weird, to be honest.

      I didn't use gradients. It's all brushes.

I like the shading. It's the light burns that look weird.
Too white. I believe they need to be a lighter tint of the same colour, no?

They look kind of like gradients. Just kind of un-natural.

Here's an update. The shading on the skin isn't final. I'm just trying to find a good color.

Previous shading on the thighs was better.

Seems like you're exaggerating light glares too much, both on the skirt and on the skin now too.

The skin is still being experimented with, but what do you mean exaggerating light glares?

You mean the skirt's lighting is to bright?

He means you're putting too much light glares on everything, and it looks odd.

Really? I thought it looked nice...

So should I make it less white?

      Don't use white at all.
Only lighter tints of the same colour on any given surface (like the skirt).
Or even no light burns at all. Just base colour + various levels of shading.

Like Hao there in my sig. Base skin colour + shading. No additional light spots.
Or like his hair: dark brown with lighter brown glints of the same colour scale.
Looking at professionally done anime (luckily, there's no shortage of that) helps.

Right now the light glares just give it a strange volumous feel, and not the right kind.

Hmm...ok I'll try something different and see how it looks.
