      Exploring Music

Everyone has heard rock, pop, techno, disco, funk, metal, country, rap etc. I believe, with the surge of creative original artists, that new genres will come and push some 'stale' genres out.

Those are some of the more 'palatable' artists that are coming out with neat new stuff. Some people will find it hard to appreciate 'new' music at first... but often it grows on them.

Remember, there's nothing wrong with liking 'old' or 'mainstream' stuff... but it doesn't hurt to explore a bit and leave your comfort zone. You might find something you really like.

For this thread, let's share some really original stuff... whether it be paintings, music, writing, or whatever.

p.s. I use mainsteam/stale/original all as generalities. They mean different things to different people, and I understand that. Please don't turn this into some argument over who likes what, whats original, or whats good. Just keep it civil and share the love by showing original expressions in various arts.

      Brass-hip-hop. Genre-destroying mind-blowing beauty.

That's cool! Brass isn't used much anymore, let alone in that style. Love their rhythm, got a good sound. Wish I could hear the lyrics better though...

Sadly, the first 4 videos are down. Damn you WMG.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Tool. Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool Tool.

KING CRIMSON. definately. They (read Fripp) basically initiated the genre of Progressive Rock. Like Tool, they're unlike any other band I know.

Are you in the US? It's because of some damn copyright law, says they've been blocked. Damn fools blocking the spread of music.

Anyway, Barney Wilen and His Amazing Free Rock Band.

Free Jazz saxophonist started a rock band and made an album in tribute of Timothy Leary, definitely one of my all time favorites.

And I second King Crimson, I used to watch the same part from some skate vid over and over because it had 21st Century schizoid man for the music. A couple badass versions of the song:

      I shall specify the following:

I'm not at all familiar enough with their music, but I know there, as I just recently found my dad's vinyl copy of In The Wake Of Poseidon.

      Nope, Canada.

Wow! Love his stuff! I can't believe I haven't heard of him! I'm gonna go to HMV today and see if they have his stuff.

I'm liking King Crimson too... very nice stuff.

I'll add some more songs here. I'm sure many of you know who John Frusciante is (ex RHCP guitarist). He's been doing solo stuff since mid 90's, and it's WAAAAAY out there... which makes sense since he was shootin up heroine literally every hour or so while he was writing.

So, I just posted a few choice ones to try and give you an idea of his stuff. His older stuff is very raw, yet beautiful. In lots of his vocal songs during his heroin years you can truely hear emotion in his voice. His new stuff is a less rough, and more beautiful! You should really check out his stuff... and don't brush him aside... his stuff takes getting used to. I find myself listening to his heroin years songs even though they're rough, simply because they're significant to me. So just check it out
