I was actually going to make some 8-bit music for a project of mine. What synth(s) would you recommend (ones that are often used in 8-bit music)?

What programs do you use? Do you do it on a computer or with a synth?
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

I do it on an actual gameboy with LSDJ. People normally don't use synths for it, you'd use a tracker on an old system like an Amiga or an NES. The gameboy is the easiest for me, and LSDJ is really easy for me.

Hope your project comes out well!

Where did you purchase your lsdj cart from? Could I record with any daw, or do I need specific software for that? What modifications did you make to give your gameboy a line out?

kitsch-bent.com. The guy who runs that site is such a nice guy, and his products are excellent.

You can record with anything, yeah. It's just like recording a guitar or whatever, as long as you can plug it in to a line in spot and your DAW can record from that, it's fine.

The gameboy already comes with a line out, so it's not necessary to make another one. However, I did make a second one in order to listen to it while I record.

      Hope that helps!

If I wanted to make some 8 bit music on a PC with FL studio, are there any good plugins or that? So far the only one I have is magical 8bit but it only has four instruments. Or do you use only the Gameboy itself?

Hmm...well what you could do is use 3xOsc and use only like, square waves and saw waves and triangle waves. As far as plugins go, I'm not sure at all. I think it's much easier to just write it on the Gameboy itself.

Also, check out Famitracker for NES sounds.
