      Connecting an electric guitar to a computer to record

      Hello I might be getting an electric guitar for my birthday and i was wondering how i would go about connecting it to my computer. I have software to record. Would i need a usb cord? Or would i have to just use an amp and record that way?

      Hello Oneiroer,
      I use a Focusrite 2i2 connected to my computer that I can plug my electric guitar into. I then use Amplitube to model effects and amps. To record, there are quite a few different software programs used, I think garageband is a pretty popular one.
