      Tell me about getting drunk

Last night I must have consumed about half a bottle of red wine, I think, at a hog roast.

Pretty quick my limbs felt numb and my brain felt big, my sense of coordination went, I couldn't focus on anything without extreme effort, and I was doing stupid stuff which seemed funny at the time (running around and things).

As soon as I got home the numb feeling started to make me feel sick, so I went outside and lay down on the cold concrete path for... what seemed like a while.

Then I sicked up all of the alcohol out of me.

It's seven hours and a dreamless sleep later now, and I'd like somebody to tell me:

Why the hell do people get drunk?

Also, I'm sure I should be cursed with a hangover like everybody else, but this hasn't happened. So, tell me:

      Why don't I get hangovers?

      Thanks, old people.

      Thanks old people? lol.

Okay from just half a bottle of red wine? I wouldn't have thought you should get that drunk, not to the extent of throwing up everywhere. But in answer to your questions.

      - People get drunk because when you go out to a bar or club there is not really a great deal else to drink, besides, I hate drunk people so drink to reflect some of the annoyingness away. And I love leaving drunk voicemail on my friends phones haha! (sorry about that to those involved with my drunk calls)

      - You only really get a hangover because the alcohol dehydrates you. So if you had plenty of water you should feel ok. I tend to find I dont have a hangover after drinking wine.

I drink because it's fun. I drank an entire bottle of wine last night, and didn't throw up once. Everyone handles it differently. I've never heard of someone getting so sick from that much alcohol... but I'm sure you're ok.

Okay. I was wondering why people drink at all if the effects are this bad.

Well, I suppose I've learnt something. Alcohol in me is like oil on water, and I mean it when I say that I'm never touching the stuff again. Being drunk wasn't any fun for me anyway. Yay, numbness.

Aye, that's why I don't drink, not a drop. If it has any potentially harmful effects - why drink alcohol? There's an enormous array of juices and drinks of endless variations to drink instead. Why drink alcohol if it both can make you sick and lose control of yourself. The latter being far worse than the former but both being negative effects.

I get those shocking hangovers. I have no other side effects but around every hour for 7 or so hours I'll vomit even if there's nothing in my belly but the fluro yellow stuff, which is annoying because everyone says "Have something to eat" or "Drink more water"

When do these hangovers start? Mine was about an hour after consumption.

Quick tip: Never drink multiple types of wine within the same hour

Tip 2: Never drive home afterwords, it's fun yet dangerous.

I'm thinking maybe because you sicked it up before it could dessicate your brain too much, + it wasn't very much.

As to why people drink, I think it's pretty much as simple as:
      "yay, numbness".

All I know is I do, and it's moderately pleasant.

Fortunately, though, enjoyable numbness is only a small part of my life.

You were mixing wine? No wonder you feel crap lol.

Last week I drank a bottle of red before going out, then was on Sambuca, vodka, beer - needless to say I was in all kinds of trouble, left some dodgy answerphone messages for people haha! It was not a good idea. Although at the time was funny!

I don't really drink because I always feel ill afterwards. Some people can drink and not get sick at all though. I have to alternate between alcoholic drink, then glass of water, then alcoholic drink, then water, and so on. If I don't, I get REALLY sick and dehydrated and pay for it for the next 2 days.

Needless to say I'm not much of a drinker.

Yeah, people usually get the short end of the stick the first time they get drunk. I know I did. Spent the night at my friends, had like six beers (not that much at all) and proceeded to having a good night. We passed out around 2, and I woke up at 7 sweating. Then I rushed to the bathroom and puked. This process occured every ten minutes or so, I ended up puking four times in less than an hour.

Everytime I've gotten drunk after that I haven't gotten a hangover unless I've been REALLY tanked. And I mean like, ten beers and a mickey of every single hard liquor combined (worst. concotion. ever.). I don't usually puke in the mornings anymore.

Anyways, if you were mixing wine, and then running around, you were asking for it. If I run a lot when I'm intoxicated I end up getting a sickly feeling in my stomach.

Overall, I like drinking, especially when you're with a large group of friends and everyone's getting along and laughing and hanging out. Of course, you get the occasional idiot who can't handle their booze, but they usually get what comes to them.

Really, it varies from person to person. Sorry that you got sick.

Getting drunk is stupid. I used to drink beer (and many times hard cider) every day. I rarely got drunk but I still drank a lot. The few times I got seriously drunk I got pukingly ill.

The last time I got plastered - and my worst time ever - (about 12 years ago) I swore off liquor for good (I may have the equal of one shot a year now). The large solid red blood spots in both eyes were enough to scare the hell out of me. They lasted for weeks. These days I have maybe 2-3 beers a week and usually not even that.

But drinking for the sake of getting drunk is just plain idiotic. Drinking more than you can handle is just as dumb. And drinking and driving is a huge no-no.

Hehe, Adam actually has a point. Drinking is a social thing, so try not to drink alone and never, ever, EVER get drunk alone, that's just plain wrong (and a bit sad...). My friends and I have the odd drinking night every now and then, and they are a blast every time. I don't know if we are very tolerant or something, but we never get sick or hungover... Don't forget to play it safe though, make sure no one drives and everybody has a place to stay the night. Also, if you rarely drink, don't try and chug the stuff down as fast as you can, spread it out over a large time period. Mixing drinks is also definately bad for beginners. The important thing is not to drink to get drunk, drinking is just something you do while doing other stuff, getting drunk is a side effect (that makes things quite interesting ).

Drinking to peel away your self consciousness? That's not cool. And you get drunk for sex, hm.
