tell me a few odd things about yourself.

I am interested in hearing some of your unusual idiosyncrasies. everyone has little weird things they do, different from most other people. so tell me a few of yours.

I thought of some good ones of mine earlier, when I got the idea for this thread, but of course I've forgetten them now. but here are some other ones:

      I love canker sores.

every now and then I get a little obsession that is totally off-the-wall, that seems to come out of no where. like several months ago it was doll house furniture, just the furniture (particularly couches) and recently it's isosceles triangles. +shrug+

everyone here probably knows this already cos I've mentioned it several times, but I have grapheme → color synesthesia.

that's all I can think of now. what are some weird things about you?

      First.

I like those lines you get from socks that are a bit too tight around your ankle. They feel funky.

When I eat spaghetti o's and meatballs, I eat the spaghetti o's separate from the meatballs, then eat all the meatballs at once.

Every single time I ride in a car, I always bob my head to try and match the line in the road to when they reach the corner of the windshield. Or the middle of the windshield wipers. I have no idea how I developed this habit, people just think I'm bobbing my head to the music, but they don't even know...

I get these random bouts of "everything orange is amazing!!!!" They come randomly and it's only ever with the colour orange.

I get stuck on certain words when people speak for a long time and focus on writing them in my head and spelling them out. It gets so bad that I forget to listen to what they're on about.

I leave half empty bottles of water everywhere around my house, on my desk, on the couch, in the kitchen, bedroom, and even bathroom. Just in case I get thirsty. I'm like that kid on that movie Signs with Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix... at least I'll be protected from aliens.

I frequently do a quick nose flare just out of habit. Sometimes I wink for no reason. I will do a really quick flex and release of just my biceps for no reason. I keep everything else of my arm relaxed. I don't bend my arm at all. I just keep them straight when I do it. Sometimes I have to do a partial skip for one step while walking. Sometimes I bend my left leg so I kick my butt. I usually try to make sure no one is watching.

Sometimes when there's a girl I like enough to imagine being with her, I fantasize about it. I know that's not weird, but I usually don't fantasize about having sex with her and whatnot. I try to keep them as realistic as possible. Usually I just fantasize about talking with her, about what things we'd say back and forth, about what I'd want her to say in response to me. Usually I fantasize about being there for her when she's sad or hurt or in need of someone. When holding my pillow and pretending it is her, I usually do the opposite. I usually pretend the pillow is me and I'm her. I think that's kinda weird, but it seems much more enjoyable that way.

If I'm hanging around in the basement in my parents' house, I cover up the mirror on the wall. And usually before going into the bathroom, I reach around and turn on the lights before stepping through the doorway. I have some sort of mirror phobia. It's quite strange.

I recognize that, Mes, I've been severely scared by mirrors earlier in my life. Those experiences can be fucking creepy

rofl, i don't know why, but im not scared of seeing myself in the mirror (there is a BIG reason why i should be, but thats more beyond dreaming forum), but sometimes, when the bathroom is steamy after a shower, i get creeped out about wiping the mirror, because DUH! there is something there!

      lol. i swear it's true.

i think its because of that movie "thirteen ghosts".
You merely have to change your point of view slightly, and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light.

I've never been afraid of mirrors in any way. Sometimes when the lights are still out (before I turn them on or after I turn them off), I'll look at myself in the mirror and purposely try to imagine that it's not me and it's some kind of ghost or spirit or something. I can't even convince myself of that. If I look straight at myself in the mirror, grab hold of the counter below it, and quickly move my body forward and backwards to where my face gets really close and then far away from the mirror rapidly, it gives me the chills. Try that sometime.

Idec, yeah. When I'm feeling suicidal, maybe.

CloudWalker, it's not seeing myself that scares me, but the possibility of seeing something else.

Excactly, Mes. All those horror movies, where a girl with long hair appears in the mirror. Sometimes, I will see myself, when it's a bit dark, and I will be all like "Holy shit a person in my house?!" and then it's just my reflection.

Omg!! I can't believe someone else shares this little phobia thing I have. Those movies must be where it all originated from... the earliest movie I remember seeing was just one of those short like 30 minute "Goosebumps" things or whatever on tv. This girl walked into a bedroom and the words "Help me" were written all over the walls, except they were written backwards, like mirror images. And she looked in the mirror and it was like a parallel universe and this girl who was actually dead looked alive in the mirror and then she walked out of it and was all ghostie and AHHHH!!!!

Lol, I saw that episode of goosebumps. Those books n shows were awesome when I was little. Btw, it is pretty scary lookin in a mirror and seeing something else. It's happened to me many times. Gotta love hallucinations.

Oh, I just realised I don't do anything weird, so that is the weird thing about me.

Do you know what that episode is called? I'd like to find it and watch it again.. maybe it will help me confront my fears. I was like a pre-teen when I first saw it.

I have a mirror phobia, too! I always thought I was alone.
      :'(

In terms of other weird things, I have this OCD-ish mannerism where if I'm eating something I have to divide the food reasonably evenly between the left and right sides of my jaw.
Also, if I crack my knuckles on my left hand (or any other joint on the left side of my body) I have to mirror this on the other side of my body. I feel very uncomfortable until I do so.
I guess it's some sort of obsession with symmetry

Yeah, something like that. Also, when you walk past a mirror, and you register movement on your left/right, but you forget about the mirror. I have fast reflexes and watching me when such stuff happens, would be weird. I remember once, that I instantly entered a defensive position, ready to kick and hit down any intruder?! I guess we're all a little bit paranoid

I am not alone thank god!

I cant wear odd socks it freaks me out!
      I cant have dirty hands
If I walk on a crack in the pavement with one foot, I have to do it with the other.
I like things to be symmetrical and matching

Okay I am going to stop now, but you get the idea - I have a lot of little quirks like this..

When I was young I did that too. If I blinked 2 times with one eye, I had to do it with my other eye too. If I saw the front of a road-sign, I had to see the back of it too. If I drummed on my table with my left index finger, I had to do it too with my right, the exact same amount of time.

I got out of it quite easily though :p

By "odd" do you mean strange socks or mismatched ones?

I can wear mismatched socks, but I feel irrationally uncomfortable in them, so I try not to.
