      Tell Me About House Spiders

      Hello there!

I have a sort of request for help since there could potentially be a spider nest in my house somewhere. The other day i saw a small house spider dead on the floor. I then saw another last night scurrying around and i was in another room just then and saw another running around.

Its happened before though, i don't know if it was a nest, but last Autumn we caught at least 3 spiders a night in the house for a month or so period. But the thing is that we should not be getting them around this season, it just doesn't fit properly for the Spring at all. We usually get a few fat bodied black ones which come in accidentally every so often, but thats a rarity even still.

So my question is, how can i find a nest if there is one, and how can i get rid of these pesky buggers.

I hate spiders with a passion and they put me on edge whenever i see one, so any advice really would be very much appreciated.

My advice is to somehow obtain a basilisk and all the spiders will leave on their own. Unfortunately the only basilisk I am aware of is currently rotting in the Chamber of Secrets...

ok, for real... bug bomb your house.

Learn to deal with it. Spiders eat all the other bugs you hate, inculding many of which damage your house and its contents.

Yep, bug bomb! Of course you'd have to get your parents to do this, and we all know how parents are too concerned about money to do these sorts of practical things (mine would never do it).

Spiders do not usually congregate in a nest like colony insects such as ants, bees, termites, etc. and are typically lone hunters. Unless there was a recent hatching, you would most likely not find a single source for any similar spiders that you find. I'm assuming that you probably aren't talking about the common house spider, since their poor vision keeps them pretty close to their webs and are not typically found scurrying around.

In order to get any more specific information, you'll have to identify the type of spider you think you are finding by looking up some spider identification info. For the most part, spiders found in the house are actually beneficial because they feed on other pests such as flies, termites, cockroaches, and anything else you might have.

The ability to happily respond to any adversity is the divine.

What Mark said. If there are spiders, they are eating bugs that you don't want.

Or you could get a cat, to take care of the spiders and the other bugs.

HA! My cat's useless with that stuff. He actually can't see bugs that are right in front of him - All cats have very poor vision up close. But maybe not all cats are as disabled by that as mine.

Get a cat anyway. Cats are good.

If you don't like them, just continue to kill them whenever you see them.

But before you kill them, just remember that unless they're poisonous or something, they're doing you more good than harm.

I just never see any bugs, so I figure the cats are taking care of them.

Yeah, i think there called domestic house spiders.

I'll have to do something if there is a nest, the only problem i have with spiders in our house is the fact that they don't care whether they are in your way, they will scurry around and mess you about. The ones that usually live in my house are very cocky and arrogant, they will come towards you whilst you are standing.

I'll maybe just have to find some way of neutralising them since we don't actually get any flies and bugs in the house at all as far as i know.

If you don't find any flies but you do find spiders, then you don't have flies because you have spiders. They wouldn't hang out in your house if they didn't have anything to eat.

thats true, but in my house so far, we've seen nothing but earwigs, but we took care of that problem, so far this year none, thankfully

earwigs are the most persistent pieces of shit ive ever encountered.

And if i see another one im spraying the house in industrial strength plutonium or something cause i HATE bugs

well you don't get spider nests, i think some spiders can live in a small community but not house spiders, they;d kill each other

Anyway like people have said, they can't hurt you and they eat insects that might annoy you more. Just break any webs that are in plain view, though webs on your windows and such won't be house spiders, they'll be garden spiders that are inside. In fact i'm not sure if house spiders can even spin webs at all, maybe a small amount in their dens( again if they have them, they seem to be always on the move) like tarantulas can but really they just crawl around grabbing bugs when they can. I'm sure you disgust them!
Lugggs and cuddles and hugs for all!!

Spiders? Hell, if our house isn't sealed up tight, when the summertime comes, we get scorpions.

That being said, though, yeah, either bug bomb them or leave them (granted they're aren't like thousands of them) because they are probably keeping other insects out.

I used to feel the same way. Try an learn to appreciate the spider. Take time to sit and watch them go about their busness. I have spent lots of time just sitting and watching them myself. I once watched two fight each other on the cieling of my room here. Interesting battle that ended in a draw.

I have worked alot of my fear of them away this way. Its not completely eradicated, but its nothing like it used to be.

Saw plenty of those when I visited my sister in Atlanta. My wifes sister lives in Loxahatchee Florida ( or however you spell it) and she sent us one encapsulated in plastic. Interesting to look at. Looks like an armor plated spider with heavy weapons added.

I would have noticed an egg sack and moved her out side, otherwise she could stay free of rent.
