No, it's not at all like Y2K or 6/6/6 which were arbitrarily decided upon as they approached...

12/21/12 as an end-time/era date has been around for thousands of years we just happen to be alive to see what actually happens.

Again, it's completely different. If anything, the outer world is already reflecting great changes...

2012 from the mayan callender is not meant to be the date of the end of the world. So you are misinformed about what it's meant to be. The only reason people got this idea is from religion. Religion got the idea from the alignment of the center of the galaxy and it's effect on the earth. So you can tell who are the religiously inclined or the blindly accepting. I'm assuming in this state of existence capacity to be aware and make your own fate is more limited than if you understood the real effects of center galaxy alignment.

Y2K was a computer bug in older software that had to do with dates.

6-6-06 was a big scare for idiots who thought the rapture was going to happen, etc.

Even though 61-06 would have been more appropriate.

At the very least, there should be a little more credence given to a culture which knew of the existence of a black hole at the center of our galaxy without the use of modern instruments, long before science ever laid claim to it.

The calendar ends for the same reason that old computers ended at 1999... nobody bothered to extend it. I'd like to know why people think this means they predicted the end of the world to happen then. It's just how far they bothered to make it go!

The old day computer programmers weren't predicting that the world would end at 2000... they simply were conserving limited memory.

That's just an assumption. You weren't there. I don't claim to know what will happen but would be inclined to believe something as opposed to nothing.
