Tell Me About Getting Better Computer Graphics?

So I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 and I've always heard computer game's are suppose to look better than game console systems. However, everysingle game I've downloaded looks boringly less than game console systems?

      Why is that?

Also, I'm not a Hard-Core gamer, as I just got into the computer game experience, so is my computer capable of playing good games?

      My Specs:

      4Gigs of Ram
      500GB HD
      Windows 7 64-bit
      Intel Core 2 Duo T6600
      12 Cell Battery

and is this my computer graphics card info??

      Any help is appreciated!

      *Edit*

      Actually it's a Laptop

      Probably not...

I mean, you certainly won't be playing anything too hardcore. You could probably play Half-Life 2 on mid-low settings, if that.

Using a laptop for gaming isn't a great idea. You should really invest into a PC.

Could you explain a bit more please?

What do you feel is needed to purchase in order to play them on my laptop with good settings? What would I need to buy for my laptop?

Can you even upgrade a laptop?

You would have to get a better graphics card. I don't think you can really do anything to a laptop besides send it in somewhere to get repaired.

build a gaming PC. i built one that will run any modern game (e.g. crysis, MW2, Bioshock 2, blah blah blah) on the highest specs smoothly for about $800. newegg rules.

I have absolutely 0 experience with building computers, and it's something that I feel (at least at the moment) isn't worth the time to go and learn. I will probably just eventually buy one.

Can anybody provide some information on what it should have in it's hardware? Would you guys advise for it's OS to be Windows 7?

a video card like an ATI Radeon HD 4670 (something with at least 1GB of video memory definitively) would be good.

I'd recommend at least 4 GB of RAM, and at least a 3 GHZ processor, duo or quad core.

If you buy a computer, its most likely going to have the newest version of windows installed on it any way.

The first thing I would suggest, is that when you play a game, go into options. Console games are built with exact knowledge of the system that it is going to run on so the graphic settings don't change a lot. Computer games have a lot of settings however.

Chances are if you just download and play a game, the options are not set to max. So max out all the graphic settings in the game, it makes a huge difference.

Next, you can also change the resolution of your computer screen. Resolution can have a huge impact on how things look in a game.

You have to take advise from gamers with a grain of salt, since they always suggest way more than you actually need. Any computer you buy in a store today, will run any game that is out today, on near max settings.

You could go into walmart and buy a 500 dollar computer and it will easily run anything. The reason for going with high end stuff, is so that a year from now it will still run anything that comes out.

Though first just check your settings out. Basically push everything as high as it will go, until it starts to slow your computer down.

Cool, thanks you guys. Do you guys have any website in mind that specialize in gaming? I went to best buy, and I saw they have a section for gaming as well. Best buy a good source or it really doesn't matter too much since like you said they all carry enough hardware for today's games?

If you want to get away with as little work as possible. You can probably find a decent computer at best buy, then in 2 years when the computer is getting a bit older, get a new graphic card and some extra ram. Then you should be fine for playing most games for the next 5 years or so.

I would personally avoid emachine brand computers. Which is what I had until just recently(until it fell apart). It worked really well but after 4-5 years it just started falling apart.

You could check around on online sites that sell computers and just look over different computers, to get an idea of what you can get at what price. I would suggest shopping around some. Unless you follow computers all the time, most people can benefit from getting an idea on what the latest things are.
