Hi guys,
This is my first post, I hope it can help someone. I have just recently spent a good 10+ lucid dreams perfecting my flying ability. In the beginning, I was "floaty," I could drift around, but it was as if I was underwater, I could get going one direction, but then it'd be hard to stop. In any case, each subsequent dream has given rise to a sharper level of precision. I always have a goal--well, almost always--and I find it MUCH easier to fly TO somewhere, than just to fly around. I've found that long distances are easier to cover with "rocket power," taking a few steps and launching yourself into the sky, whereas close distances I'll usually just raise my arms and float off the ground. It also helps not to think of it as floating, I think. Have you seen "Howl's Moving Castle?" When Howl casts a spell, his hair and clothes seem to blow in an unseen wind, and I've found that this visualization of power around myself really gives me more control in my dreams.
Another thing to try, if you can't get off the ground at all, is something my friend was told in a lucid dream by some sort of external consciousness:
Take a cottonball and hold it out in your hand. Keep imagining it feeling lighter and lighter until it lifts into the air. Then, imagine yourself with this same light feeling. Make yourself lighter than the cottonball. Seems like it should work, my friend learned to fly this way.
Good luck! I really believe flying is a practiced trait, at least, it has been for me.
