How do you do a lucid dream?

I'm new to lucid dreaming. My dad just told me about it about 30 minutes ago. I was wondering if anyone can explain to me how you do a lucid dream. I don't totally understand how you get into the state of it. Please help if you can, thanks a bunch.

You came to the right place, Purple Dust. Go to the Tutorials section and read the following:

      FAQ
      DILD
      Quickstart
      Wake Back to Bed (WBTB)
      MILD
      Dream recall
      Reality checks

Using WBTB and MILD together is probably the easiest way to start. The instructions for some of the other techniques can be vague and confusing while the instructions for MILD are pretty simple...Follow them and be patient. It could take a few weeks or even months to be successful. It took me about 3 weeks to have my first real lucid dream. Keeping a dream journal and doing reality checks is a must.

Above all, don't get frustrated...the best attitude is to be patient and know you will eventually have a lucid dream if you keep trying.

The first time i became lucid i didn't do anything special, i was just walking down the street and was like "hey this is a dream".But after that it only lasted about 15 seconds.

Are you like only supposed to do MILD after youve slept for 5/6 hours i.e. WBTB or is it before you go to sleep for the first time as well?

      Welcome to DV, mEVIO!

Practicing MILD before initially going to bed can help you to wake up when you want to, and can help improve your dream recall. But your chances of having a lucid dream are far greater after you've slept several hours.
