      Things you lose lucidity to.

I just had three lucid dreams in one night, that's a great achievement considering I've only had 3 lucid dreams lasting about 3-4 seconds each. These three new LD's lasted around..... maybe 1-2 minutes each. Now that I have a better understanding of LD's and Me in one. I can say I lose lucidity to Darkness ( closing eyes, Dark areas ) often the dream will turn into darkness, and at that point rubbing hands/spinning is useless. Strong emotions ( excitement, fear ) I also noticed that I have to be reminding myself that I'm dreaming every 1-2 seconds or risk loosing the light/lucidity. So, what about you?

In the couple of lucid dreams that I've had so far, I can say that I suffer from the same problem. Each has only lasted a matter of 2-3 seconds before I begin waking up, and the fading of the dream was caused by me becoming too excited over the fact that I had finally achieved lucidity.

I have been fortunate to have had 100's of lucid dreams over the decades. The thing I avoid (and ,trust me , it is hard) is flying. The feeling of exhilaration from flight has a tendency to wake me up. These days I like to take as leisurely a stroll in an LD as I can... just taking in all the sights and sounds. I avoid talking to DC's as this also has a tendency to wake me up. I have also found the natural thought of 'am I dead?' has a tendency to awaken me even though the overwhelming feeling is that even if I am dead, then it isn't so bad.

I loose lucidity to darkness too, and, one time the cause was excitement. Most of the time I don't know why I lose lucidity, I seem to fade out for no reason. Perhaps doubt plays a role.

If I don't stay focused or let my vision blur or don't pay attention to detail then my vision fades until I am awake! Other things happen like certain tasks can either cause you to lose lucidity or awaken. I also have a crazy image in my head of a dream character touching my forehead and stealing my lucidity and causing me to enter a new dream or location where I am no longer lucid. Kind of trippy! -Chase

Whoa man, sounds fucked. That's what I wanted to hear though. Is it one specific character that touches your forehead, or just random dc's?

wow, that's lucky as hell. Every time I fly I wake up a few seconds later from the excitement.

1)Closing my eyes for long periods of time, sometimes I blink just because it is natural, even though there is no need, but that usually doesn't effect anything unless I close my eyes a lot.

I don't think excitement really affects me, I have had a lot of LDs so I'm sorta used to it, I don't over excite myself

2)thinking about my body, that I am really asleep, etc. I find that when I do that, I start feeling my legs in real life, I can feel the SP and I wake up

      3) Not stabilizing enough. This is my main one, I noticed that most of my LDs just fade out, due to me, not stabilizing and reassuring I am dreaming enough.

      flowers shall grow
      and I am in them
      and that is eternity.

Following the plot of the dream. Normally, when the DC involves me in conversation...I need to fight this off, I want to talk to them without that

For me, it's a crap shoot. Sometimes I'll maintain lucidity easily, even while venturing through darkness or becoming really excited. Other times, I'll be stabilizing or exploring the dream, then suddenly, poof I'm awake.

I can't say I've ever had a DC "steal my lucidity", but at times they distract me so much from my awareness that I completely lose it. I find that either rubbing my hands together or scratching my head, while paying attention to the sensation while talking to DC's helps keep me from getting distracted. Other times, I'll repeat a mantra in my head, "I am lucid and will not be distracted", while talking to them.

Here is a chicken or the egg response. Every time i start worrying about losing lucidity or think i am going to wake up I do. I don't know if I lose it because I am worrying about it or i am worried about it because i am losing lucidity.

I'll keep that in mind for next time. It seems that the way I've chosen to deal with DCs - completely ignore them for now - seems a little rude to my subconscious X)

I've also lost lucidity due to darkness (not straight away, but the darkness seems to slowly indicate that the dream is coming to an end and that i am going to lose lucidity) and at other times I have lost lucidity due to any quick movement (running, driving etc)
