Wow! 2 very different LD's in one night. How did I do it?

After trying to have LD's for a while, I finally did it! I have no idea how I did it and why it was so easy that particular night. I was sleeping very light and woke up from a normal dream several times. After a while I just knew that I could have a LD. A few moments after that thought I felt myself spinning and a dreamscape formed in front of my eyes. It was a typical residential neighbourhood and the sun was shining. I managed to remain pretty calm, but I remember thinking that I should hurry looking around before i woke up again. When I was walking it felt like walking through syrup. The LD lasted for 1-2 minutes before it faded and I found myself back in my bed. Shortly after I entered another LD. This time the dreamscape was totally different. It was dark and foggy. I tried to shout "sun", but nothing happened.

The second LD lasted about a minute. After this I decided to get out of bed to record both dreams. It was an incredible experience, and although I've had LD's before (years ago) they could not compare with these last dreams.

The frustrating part is that I don't know how I did it, and why it was so easy. I know both LD's was DEILD, but how could I be so sure to have LD's when I have struggled so much with it earlier? Have anyone had similar experiences? Can I expect this to occur frequently? I am really hooked now, that's for sure!

      Congrats on the LDs!

The reason it was so easy for you is because you were completely confident about it. They will continue to get easier from here because you know that you can do it now, and the experience you gain in the LDs will also give you more confidence with your dream control. Thinking about and visualizing LD success right before sleeping will also help immensely, especially when doing DEILDs, which directly induct you into the dream.

1-2 minutes is a pretty solid LD for light sleep. It sounds like you might have been able to salvage it though, since you were able to enter another dream directly after that. Did you try doing some clarity increasing techniques as the dream was fading on you?

      Thanks!

Well, as a very inexperienced LD'er I did little to stabilize the dreams. I was very exited to finally have a proper LD, and unfortunately I forgot to do most of the techniques I've read and heard about. The only things I remember doing was shouting "clarity" and looking once at my hands (and some spinning at one point) . I think I will be better prepared next time. The dreamscape was quite blurry and it was hard to focus when I looked in any direction. I'm so looking forward to all the LD's I know will come in the future.

There is one thing I'm a little puzzled about. These LD's happened soon after I first fell asleep so I couldn't possibly have reached REM yet. Is it possible to have LD's in non REM sleep?

Congrats on the 2 LDs lucidlion! Just for future reference the lighting in dreams remains constant from what i believe so dont concentrate on lighting your surrounding environment try teleporting (by using a door, spinning (but dont close your eyes), or something else), that way you could be in an environment that is more acceptable to you if you don't like darker dreams, it also helps when you stabilize your dream before teleporting. just my 2 cents there, hope it helps.

to answer your last question too: yes you can LD in non REM sleep, but its more rare and probably tougher to recall I would assume.

Dreams occur in the transition to and from Delta brainwave sleep. People will dream in increasing intensity through the night . Most people have dreams immediately upon entering deep sleep or just before awakening as our brains transition to and from Theta to Delta. Hope this helps.

The recall was actually pretty good on both LD's. But if I had let myself fall back to sleep without recording them I probably wouldn't have remembered them in the morning. My recall usually is pretty bad. I often remember one dream in the morning, but then I am distracted by my wife and my daughter. Soon the memory have faded away. I think it's really hard to keep a DJ like I know I should.

I have experienced a few LD's during naps in the past, but that was allways during the daytime. I have no idea what made me become concsious this particular night. It was like I just woke up inside my head, but I managed to not move at all. I'm really looking forward to next time (I plan to be much more aware of how important it is to stabilize).

When you do wake up try to tune everything out for a few moments and ask yourself how you feel and what you dreamed; It's very important that you don't move right when you awaken though! It helped me recall dreams a lot better. Also, try to keep a dream journal even if means recording fragments or how you felt when you woke up, I had a dream journal and kept at it my recall was great, but I've been slacking on recording my dreams lately and ultimately my great recall has been killed by this. I'm actually going to start recording my dreams again, whether on this site or elsewhere.

Just keep a good confident attitude and next time may come quicker than you think it will. good luck!

Yeah, this happened to me last week. I hadn't had a lucid dream in over a week and then out of the blue after a failed WILD attempt (and a very long time trying to get back to sleep) I had a DILD as soon as I entered a dream. After that, I had 2 more DEILDs without the least bit of effort. I just knew I could do it, and my word was absolute at the time.

Belief plays a major role in this whole field.
