I keep falling aseelp during WILD ..

This week ive tried to WILD each night ..and each night i cant manage to keep awake ..ill start counting 1. i am dreaming 2. i am dreaming, then before i know it ill be awake and its like the morning.

I know someone has mentioned drinking a caffiene beverage once you wake yourself up, but if i did that i will be up the rest of the night ..

I cant seem to get the right balance between falling to sleep and totaly waking myself, making it impossible to get back to sleep for a extended period of time .

Does anyone have any hints or ideas on something I could try?

So, you are doing this in the middle of the night, or when you first go to bed? If when you first go to bed, I'd say that's probably what will happen because WILD's are rare at the beginning of the night. If in the middle of the night, then I'd say it just takes more practice. For me it was a gradual thing, where I got farther and farther each time I tried. I just posted this in another thread in the General Discussion section, but I'll repeat it below (it's my method). Sometimes even when I may be losing consciousness the body sensations I describe may pull me back just enough.

I use HI to lull me towards sleep, but when I feel like I'm losing consiousness I try not to focus on them so much and maintain conciousness by telling myself to relax or repeating things in my head like "I'm about to enter a dream." Then I try to concentrate more on how my body feels than on what I see.

I get some clues before vibrations and SP kick in - my mouth suddenly feeling like it has turned to a frown and/ or my whole body feeling like the muscles instantly changed in some way (paralyzed, but not quite). It's hard to describe, but it usually feels like my body has sunk an inch or two into the bed. After this the vibrations usually kick in.

When I feel vibrations and then my body is paralyzed I either get up or sink into my bed (figuratively in both cases, of course) and voila, I'm in an LD.

      Hi there..thanks for the response.

Yeah i set my alarm clock for around 3:30-4AM, which is like 5 or so hours into my sleep.

I wake up, and try to calm myself and relax a bit first ...then i start the counting, and i have a really hard time concentrating on keeping the count, and usualy just fall asleep lol.

Im hoping to have better luck tonight !

You might have better luck if you stayed up for at least 30 minutes before trying. I'd guess that you're probably still so drowsy that you're just falling back to sleep

I've never managed a WILD, but I have had a good amount of success doing the WBTB thing, and then realizing I'm in a dream once I'm asleep. I think it also helps to do something related to lucid dreaming (like reading the DV forums) during that time you're awake -- that way the subject is fresh in your mind.

Yeah, that counting thing never worked well for me. I just try to imagine some scenario (maybe the dream I just woke up from) until HI start and then just watch those until I start to feel really tired as I mentioned above. I usually try to go straight to WILD after I wake up because if I stay up for long then I'm thinking about too much stuff and I can't get to sleep. Maybe you are a bit too drowsy though as tygerhawk suggests. I'd just keep working on it to find that right balance.
