      What happened here?

Last night i had a very strange non-lucid dream after an unsuccessful WILD attempt.

The dream took place in a city that was about to get hit by a powerful hurricane. I was on a mission to go get my parents out of their house. On the way to my parents house some friends joined me. When we finally got to my parents place, it was flooded. When i finally was able to get in, i found my parents on the second floor. There was my dad, who was in a wheelchair for some reason, my mom, and younger siblings, who i had seamingly forgot about until now. And now it's where it gets weird. So i start talking to my dad and he tells me that he is sorry for having told me to do a reality check. Right when he said reality check i remembered i should do one now. And just as i was gonna hold my nose, my perspective changes to a third person view. And i see myself perform the reality check, only it wasn't me that i was looking at, in fact as i looked around i realized that i had no idea who any of these people were. So i fugured it must be a dream, i would have attained lucidity but the problem was that i didn't have a body. I was just a floating conscious. The dream resumed for a few more minutes and then i just woke up.

So any thoughts on this?? Any comments and advice would be greatly appriciated.

I think maybe you are getting too lax in your R.C. habits. I think maybe you do them now, but you don't think about them. So now you do them in dreams easily enough, but you forget to think about the reality it tells you, and in the dream you do one, but don't realize it's a dream, like properly.

      That's my idea anyway.

That is a freaky realization. I wonder who you were?

I find it fascinating when we dream about being a different person. It is not surprising that our dream characters would be shuffled around. Even family members and close friends are often mixed around. I would assume that our sense of self would be so strongly ingrained in our minds that we would always play the same character. It is weird when I catch myself being someone completely foreign. I wonder if you would have even considered who you were or if you never became lucid and self-aware. Makes me wonder how many dreams like this we miss because we never become lucid.

Yea it is very interesting. I mean I've had other dreams where the people who i thought were my parents weren't actually my parents but this is the first time that realized i wasn't playing myself in the dream. And it does make me wonder how many other dreams like this i have missed because i wasn't lucid. Man, there is just so much we don't know about dreams

I very very rarely dream about real life people or events. For me, it's either in game locations, video game characters, random sort of concepts of places where I know where I am, but I'm not anywhere particular (like I'm on a golf course. Not any golf course, and not anywhere really specific.).

I often dream in 3rd person, watching over events without a body, but if I do have a body, it is rarely mine, and usually that of a character or other person from a tv show/game/film.

Well I'm guessing it's different for all of us. But at least when you dream of yourself in a different body, it is one you know of. In my case i had no idea who it was or maybe it was someone i just randomly saw on the street?

I usually have dreams involving people I have never seen or met. Sometimes they have faces, but most of the time the dream isn't vivid enough, or I don't look at their faces to notice. They don't look like freaks, it's just my mind doesn't put them in. Like it doesn't put in a landscape beyond what I can see.

Yea that makes sense. Why fill in the small details you wouldn't notice, right? Lol i guess even the mind likes to take it's shortcuts.

Still, if you become lucid, you can, if you are able, fill in those blanks. You can tear up the landscape and fill it in with all sorts of crazy shit if you want. You can add people or mountains or houses or the sea or clouds or water buffalo..

Just last night I had a nonlucid dream where I was myself, but I kept on having these weird flashbacks of being a halforc with a giant wolf. I read a lot of fantasy novels, so that might be the reason for the halforc.

Well yeah, if you really get into something, it manifests into your dreams. Like me, I play a lot of games, watch a lot of movies, etc, so every single night at least once I will dream about one aspect of a game. Depending on which game I was currently playing, I dreamed about a different game.

If you ride horses all day every day, odds are your dreams will involve horses. If your job is a dentist, odds are you will dream about your surgery or mouths. It may sound dumb, but thats it. It's also the reason why you never dream and see something you never saw or heard about before. I bet no one here has seen something in a dream, then looked it up on the internet and found out for the first time what it was. You can't invent in dreams- only create from spare parts you already know.

Yea and even if you learned something you thought was new to you, you probably read it in a book somewhere or heard someone talking about it and then just forgot but your subconscious never forgets.

Thats exactly it. It's simple stuff, everyone here, everyone in the world knows it. You brain doesn't forget half of what you think it does over the years. You know the whole nostalgia feeling? Thats just you bringing back memories of stuff you thought you had forgotten. But of course you haven't, only thought you did.
