      Anchoring?

I'm getting back into LDing after taking a good 3 month break, and I'm really rusty. I vaguely remember something about anchoring your senses into a dream, but have no recollection of how to actually do it. I'm, of course, talking about DEILD/WBTB about an hour before I wake up for school.

So how do I 'anchor' myself into a dream?

Anchoring, for the most part, means consciously remaining partially awake... or anchoring in the real world whilst you fall asleep. Some say look at an object in your room then visualize it as you fall asleep. Others listen to music that might continue into the dream. Another definition of anchoring is sometimes mixed up with the term reality checks whilst asleep. Determining you are dreaming by looking at your hands and realizing they do not look right... and so on. I prefer the first definition.

I thought anchoring was like holding a ball or something in your hand and focus on it in your hand. Then when you did fall asleep you would notice that the ball was gone or you would feel in still in your dream and that would remind you why you were holding it. I might try that tonight after my WBTB.

Wow - I have a totally different idea of what anchoring is - I saw this in a tutorial around here somewhere.

I heard it's using as many senses as possible to affirm the dream environment. As in touching surfaces, licking or tasting things, listening to the sounds etc.

So far that's 3 posts, 3 completely different answers!

Darkmatters I think what you described was more like stabilizing a dream, once you are in it.

      That's my thoughts.

Ok, maybe I had it wrong - I could swear I read that in a tut somewhere. But I just did a search and found Nina's Stabilization and Clarity tutorial, which mentions anchoring, and it says it consists of hand examination and verbal commands.

I still could swear I read what I said above called anchoring - I think maybe in a tut by Billybob or somebody? I don't know.

Maybe anchoring is a broad subject like reality checks. You can't just say reality checks without being very vague. Maybe anchoring is all these things.
