I just can't seem to get lucid....HELP ME!

What the hell is wrong with me? Every method I try, I can't get lucid! I tried HILD last night, and I did get to hypnotise myself (I had fluttering eyelids witch is a sure sign of hypnosis), but when I went to sleep I didn't have a lucid dream. However, I did wake up after my first dream, fell asleep, and then my mom woke me up from my second dream . I hate it because I even tried the clock thing, sticking you toung through the roof of your mouth, and the see through eyelids thing (not to mention every other method). I'm going to try to go to sleep tonight, get my alarm to wake me up at 11:00pm, then say I am dreaming as I fall asleep. The thing is, my consious mind hates working with my sub-counsious mind, and to add to that I'm a wide-range thinker (my mind wanders alot). I need help.

I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have anyway to get into a lucid dream, thats easy, flawless, or at least not too hard? The talking to my sub-counsious mind thing doesn't really work well for me...

Thanks to all who respond .

It's definitely more difficult for some than for others. There is no "sure-fire" method that works for everyone -- if there was, we'd all be doing it!

First of all make sure you give each method you try a fair shake. Don't give up on it after a day or two -- try it for at least a week, maybe two.

Second, make sure you are getting enough sleep overall, and are not stressing out too much about things in your life. Obviously, you cannot always just banish stress from your life, but just understand that if you are stressed, your dream recall (and chances of lucid dreaming) are greatly diminished. So if you are feeling stressed, don't count those days as part of the trial of whatever method you're currently using.

Third, have confidence. Know that there are many, many of us here that have lucid dreams on a regular or semi-regular basis, and therefore it is possible for you to do so. It seems that having confidence is the biggest key to making it happen.

Other than that, I'd just say don't give up. The only way to be sure of failure is to quit trying.

      Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to try the method where you fall asleep for half an hour, and then wkae up by alarm, and then say "I am dreaming" untill I fall asleep. I doubt it will work since I'm tired and I have a stupid teacher today who was over religious (I don't go to a religious school) and she was being a ***** to me and I hate her . Anyway, all I can do is hope that it works.

Yeah there is no "easy" way to get lucid for most people, especially those who aren't naturals already. It just takes practice, dedication, and determination. Also, stressing about it and trying TOO hard can be a bad thing. If you have been trying too hard lately you might want to simply take a break for like a week or so. This always helps me and almost happens naturally with me anyway. I will have lots of lucids and then they will disappear for a week or so (like my body is telling me that, ok enough of that have some regular dreams, or get some real sleep!)

I agree also that you should give every method a fair chance. I prefer WILDs to induce lucidity but I still haven't mastered those even though I have been having them unintentionally for years. Try not to get frustrated. I have a very good friend here who tried for nine months before he ever had his first lucid, (he could have had a baby in that time lol) and it is well worth the wait.

Ummm.... I'm not sure where you read that -- but 1/2 hour is not enough to sleep before trying that method (it's called WBTB or Wake-Back To Bed). I would advise getting 4-6 hours of sleep before trying this. 1/2 hour isn't even one full sleep cycle. Typically this method works best if you've gotten through 3-4 sleep cycles first (sleep cycles are usually around 90 minutes). The idea is to get all of your deep sleep out of the way so that most of the rest of your sleep time is spent in REM (dream) stage.

It can also be helpful to stay awake for at least 30 minutes before returning to bed. Have a soda or a chocolate bar, just a little caffiene to help keep your mind active when your body goes back to sleep. And during the waking time, do something to keep your mind on lucid dreaming, like reading the DV forums.

FWIW, this method has worked very well for me. If I am getting enough sleep, and practice this every night, I can usually get at least 2-3 LDs a week this way. I haven't really found any other method that works for me, but everyone is different -- your mileage may vary.

SOBB, I just want to add that you should to do a reality check every time you think you've woken up during the night.. you might be experiencing a false awakening and may still be dreaming.

Good luck.. I know it's hard.. and it's frustrating but just keep trying.

May you experience lucidity very soon!

Thanks a lot. I need all the help that I can get!

If you do Decent RC's consistently and intergrate that into your life sooner or later you are going to dream about it and have atleast 1. As well as trying the other techniques.
With Persistence in dedication there is no way you are going to fail

Hehe, I see the negative attitude over there. You think that you wont be able to lucid dream, think that your mind is split between warring factions, but it's not true.

What you might try is doing suggestions for a period of a few days (like 2-3 days). Really thing and enforce your suggestion and intention to become lucid within the next week.
State the pathway : how do you want to become lucid, but dont be too specific or too demanding.

After few days of active suggestion and working on your intent, completely let go of it for a few days. *dont* think about lucid dreaming before going to bed, dont try any methods unless it's the very end of a night.

Your suggestion should start working and you will have a lucid dream ! The main thing is not to dwell on this event and possibly keep neutral attitude towards it...

Hey I know exactly how you feel... since the strat of this year I've tried hard with only 4 short five second lucid dreams... it's hard to keep slogging away and not get frustrated... I know there's just one little thing that I'm not getting and once I do it will start to work.

The way I see it when I start to feel miserable about my dreams is this- I have the rest of my life to conquer lucid dreaming, so it might not happen now or tomorrow but it will happen eventually and when it does I will be fucking stoked. There's no use just giving up because the rest of ur life will be boring.

Sometimes trying to hard will always interrupt the process. I would suggest trying various methods. Don't stick to just one way of obtaining Lucidity. Keep your mind open to the various ways. Good luck..

I have had short 2-second lucid dreams, where i get excited and wake up. last night i had a lucid dream inside of a dream where i went to sleep, then went to sleep in my dream, then thought about LD's and became lucid, then woke up in my dream. Is this a false-awakening?

Don't try to hard just relax and ease into it and if you notice that you are dreaming keep or just slowly change your state of mind or you will make up vey quickly

Update: I had my first lucid dream without trying!!!!! It was about 2 nights ago. I fell asleep, and (I'm only gonna tell the first part) I was outside in this white room with mountains in the background. My friend adam and another friend were there. My friend adam said "Lets do something", but I said that I need to do a reality check first. I tried to see through my eyelids, but I couldn't, so then I tried to stick my toung through the roof of my mouth. I could! Immediately I knew I was dreaming. I told myself to stay calm, it worked. I also told myself not to forget I was lucid, it didn't work... I forgot within a minute, and since I did not know what I wanted to dream, I forgot even faster... It was cool anyway.

By the way, I find that one of the best ways to remember dreams is to think about dreams, and only dreams when you wake up. Take a hot shower immediately, and ask yourself questions about your dream. This usually brings my full dreams (with a few tiny details missing) back to me within 5 minutes or less.

Thanks for all the replies. Tell me what you think of my dream .

Just dont give up . I have a stubborn subconcious mind too. When ever i try to make something interesting happen when i realize i am dreaming my mind somehow wont let me but just relax and your mind might let you have an LD.
If practice makes perfect and nobody is perfect then why practice?

Okay, thanks for the advice. I am trying to use HS to induce lucids, and it has almost worked since I am a natural at HS. The reason it hasn't is I keep getting woken up.

Hey Aramis i dont think your snooze idea is very good becouse onece you get a lucid dream and it ends during a snooze period that just abselutely SUCKS! when i knew about lucid dreaming (2-3 years ago) i was just reading about LD thinking it was BS and wasint possible and than i had one by accident during snooze. That dream was so awsome and i wanted it to never end but then the snooze alarm went off and i wanted to smash my alarm clock into the wall .I beleve in Quality Over Quantity so the snooze idea isint for me but if you want quanitity over quality i guess snooze are alright.

you're just like me, everything you said happened to me too, BUT KEEP TRYING, like i do, and you will succeed.

i couldn't become lucid either for a very long time, but i did become it a few days ago, after trying so hard, and i didnt did it myself: i was in this very black room, with 2 other people, who said to me that i was dreaming, so i was like: ow really? youre right, i am dreaming!
but i lost it and i had a false awakening

another time, a month ago, i was in this battle, and it was just "blown" into me, and i became lucid, and i lost it, and i woke up

so, you don't always have to do it "yourself" to become lucid, it also can float by...
but then comes the big, bad problem of keeping yourself lucid and/or not waking up, and i tell you, THAT SUCKS!!!!!

      so
      KEEP TRYING

      and:
      GOOD LUCK

I've only become lucid once, but now I can't!! It's so annoying!! I am also not having as much HS. God, I hate this. Why can't lucid dreaming be natural? Like a natural talent that was forgotton, and then re-discovered today. I hate working for something, and then not being able to get it. No, and I repeate NO method works for me. NONE. I can only lucid when I don't mean to, which was once. I'm even starting to think that I don't dream (Though I do) because I can't remember my dreams!!!!!!!!!! I could about a week ago, but now my stupid retarted brain is being a $h!t he@d! Is there any 100000000000000000000000000000000% out of 100% way to get a lucid? I know there isn't but I'm Pis$3d, so I'm asking anyway.

      Man, I hate this......
