FTP (Finger through palm) - Do you do it?

OK. FTP helped me somtimes to be sure I was dreaming.

But the funny thing is me doing it while I'm awake. I look around carefully to see if no one is looking at me, and then perform it. (It would be so stupid some one asking me "What are you doing??? Trying to put your finger through your palm...)

How do you feel doing FTP in real world?

I used to think it was a good RC and even did it once in a LD to check how it will feel. It felt like a forcefield...

However, this RC failed me once or twice during two very screwed up and unpleasant dreams where I *had* to know if I'm dreaming or not. I had awareness to perform a RC... FTP RC failed miserably and made me suffer through the dream.... So I never used it since then.

I don't perform reality checks when I am in my dreams...b/c by the time I think I could be dreaming and bother to do an RC I'm already lucid so I don't bother. However I wanted to try this in my dream just to see how it felt...really bizarre!!! But it made my lucid alot more clear and realistic. So I would suggest doing it anyway.

If you are worried about doing RCs in real life without looking nice an ass try a RC that isn't so obvious. Then in your dream you can do the FTP still. I think the best RC when you are awake is to look at a digital clock or watch or something. That way people will have no clue what you are going. Good luck .

It's funny that you mention this because I was just thinking about it today. I was in the sun room with some of my family members. They don't know I'm working on having a lucid dream, but they probably wouldn't care if I bothered to explain it to them. Anyway I realized I had forgotten to do a reality check so I just pretended I was playing w/ my hands instead of being obvious about it.

Haha, it's true: I feel like an idiot sometimes when I poke myself in the palm. Hopefully it'll work in the end, though!

I personally wouldn't care if someone saw me trying to stick my finger thru my palm as I would just tell them what I was trying to do and why I was trying to do it.

Learning to control ones dreams is nothing to be ashamed of because it is one of the coolest things a person can learn how to do, since a person who can control their dreams can virtually do anything they want, go anywhere they want, work on improviing any skill they want, etc, all night long while they are sleeping.

I have yet to find anyone who hasn't been interested in learning to control their dreams after I've explained lucid dreaming to them.

Of course, jumping up and trying to fly all day long as you go thru the day might be a different matter, as people might really begin to wonder what is wrong with you. And for me that is the only thing that always convinces me that I am dreaming, other than if I just become aware of the fact that I am dreaming because of the dream being so rediculous or because I seem to be having so much difficulty in it.

Tbh, I don't think it sounds like a viable RC... decent reality checks force your mind to do somthing it can't ina dream, like the classic digital watch RC, that never fails because your mind isn't capable of rendering a digital screen on the fly.

But it's quite possible for your mind to keep your palm solid in a dream...

      Clock..

I read here in this very forum that the Digital Clock RC has failed, and not in the sense that it wouldn't trigger lucidity, but the guy said the clock did not change... but show the same hour...

So I think all RC will fail. The trick is you to have more than one and always change them, or better, perform a Check List of RC.

      You're absolutely correct.

Almost any reality check can fail as the subconscious mind can be very convincing in convincing one that they are not dreaming. It probably depends on the person. I've looked at clocks before in my dream, and when I looked at them again, they were exactly the same as before. I've also tried reading something and then tried again and had no problem, so for me neither of these methods work. In fact, the only method that has never failed me is to try floating. If I am dreaming I have always been able to start floating, and then know that I am dreaming, but that's just me. It is probably best to have two or three reality checks and try them all just in case one of them fails.

I always realize that I'm dreaming long before I try an RC. But in general, I do FTP once I get the feeling that Im dreaming. It's also the RC that I do in waking life.

I, too, always realize (or at least suspect) that I'm dreaming before doing a reality check. The ones that work for me are trying to float, or breathing through a pinched nose. The floating one only failed me once, but there was a lot happening in that dream -- I was running to or from something --- and didn't have a a lot of time to concentrate on it.

hmm.. that might be cool to try. Off-topic, i once impaled my hand with a nail when i tripped and fell on a board. So perhaps trying on that hand would be interesting hehe.
