I experienced something similar yesterday night, i had full on sleep paralysis. I havent had a lucid dream yet but someone told me that you have to hold onto your hypnagogic imagery for as long as you can.

Yeah don't worry mate, I've tried this so many times it's not funny, and I've got soooo close so many times but never broke through... I think that maybe it's because I get really excited... when I start getting full on vibrations etc i start trying really hard, which might be detremental to my cause because technically I'm meant to make my body fall asleep...

      Keep tryin though

I've been struggling with sleep paralysis too. When I try to go to sleep like that, I realized that I was on my back stretching out completely my legs and arms. This is quite uncomfortable and the knees/elbows should be slightly bent. I will avoid this tonight and hope to try this for more than 45 minutes.

jay dawg, the thing that works the best for me is to remember that each time a limb goes numb, your getting that much closer to sleep paralysis, and that much closer to a lucid dream. It should make you happy. I remind myself that I'm patient, and that becoming numb is good for me because I'm learning to become quite patient, outlasting itches, not reacting so violently when people upset me.

When a section of you is completely paralyzed (usually the legs go first) then you should have a renewed interest. It may help to remember that frustation is only going to hold you back, drop the frustation. If it becomes too much too often, I stop for the night. Otherwise, I'll keep going.

One of the most important things to remember when WILDing is to try to remain as still as possible, even eye movement can disrupt your body from falling asleep and ruin any HI that may be forming.

Another thing that is important is to silence your "internal monologue". You know the type of thinking that is the "loudest", the voice in your head that keeps talking, singing songs that are stuck in your head etc whether you want it to or not. It's important to shut this voice out completely when trying to WILD. Some people find this easy, I myself find it incredibly difficult.

      Well, theres my two cents.
"Forget? I have twice in my life forgotten something. Once that Aetro-oil and Quicksilver have a certain idiosyncracy as regards to each other. That cost me my arm. Secondly that Hel was a woman and you a man; that cost me my heart."

I have heard it before about no internal dialogue, but I don't understand why exactly. If you are trying to enter sleep consciously then 'talking' to yourself is helping you to stay conscious while your body goes to sleep and your subconscious comes up with the dream world. I must be misunderstanding something.

Not quite. Eye movement will not "disrupt" your body from falling to sleep and wont ruin any Hi thats forming unless you actually open your eyes. Also silencing your "internal monologue" would probably lower your chances of actually going lucid. your "internal monologue" as you say helps keep you thinking of something, obviously if your still thinking of this thing as your falling to sleep, you carry on thinking it untill you enter a dream, and because thinking it has kept you that tiny bit more there, that tiny bit turns into ur lucidity. If you didnt have something on your mind like this you would just go into a non lucid dream. Its what most WILD techniques are about, concentrating on something to keep you there as you fall to sleep.
