Post entering lucidity almost occurred but got scared lol

So I found this site yesterday while at work...I have had a few lucid dreams before but as soon as I noticed what was happening I would always get overly excited and wake up after about 30 seconds. I remember trying to do stuff in my first one...but couldn't make anything happen because I expected the dream to do the work for me...I know now after reading this site that I have to put in more mental work for that.

Anyway last night I woke up around 4am, I was up for maybe 30seconds and thought...time to WBTB. So I tried and pretty sure I was on the right track but got scared due to the roller coaster sensation that came over my body. Lol it just didn't feel natural so I punked out. Was this in fact the early stages of a lucid dream? How exactly do you go about ignoring that feeling when it feels like your falling in a bottomless pit

Believe me, it is completely natural to get that feeling. As for it being the early stages of a lucid dream, it can be if you want it to. The sensation you describes is the onset of your body falling to sleep. Many people who practice the WILD technique(basically letting your body fall asleep before your mind) experience that kind of feeling every time they try it and they actually use it as a stepping stone or a "trail marker" if that makes any sense. It shows that you are stepping in the right direction. Instead of trying to ignore it, I would suggest using it as something to let you know your closer to falling asleep and dreaming. If you would like to read up more on these kinds of sensations they are many different threads you can search for, or you can read up on the WILD tutorial, which will go over those sensations and will go more in depth about it than I just did. Hope this helps(:

Pretty much the exact same thing that happened to me, I got the sensation and could feel my heart rate speed up and freaked out and woke up... I thought it was just me too

Nope me too. The idea of getting sleep paralysis freaks me out too.

Ah , yes... that falling feeling. That's where the saying 'falling asleep' comes from. However, if you are trying to maintain awareness this phenomena can be quite disturbing. You'll get used to it!

I have been scared in a dream, but have not woken up because of it. So I doubt that is the cause of you waking up.
Try focusing on the dream when you enter it. That might help as some people might start thinking and their visual focus might not be in the right place.

SP also freaks me out, ever since I woke up with it one time.
