      wearing contacts while you sleep

i'm too lazy to take my contacts out when i go to bed, i was wondering if anyone knew if there was some sort of consequence to that? like when you go into REM, you're eyes move under your eyelid and that might make something uncomfortable because of the contacts. just wondering if anyone knew anything abo this.

Honestly, you should tell us. If you've done this before and woken up without them in your brain, then its cool (Because we have REM every night, regardless if you remember it or not). The only danger I would see is bacteria forming under the contact and between your eye (happens alot) and you would wake up blind.

no, i didn't ask if it was ok for me to. i do it every night, i have been for a long time (i had to take them out tonight cause i got sand in my eye) but you know how they say comfort is the most important thing, well having contacts in while you sleep might make it less comfortable

I have gone to sleep with my contact lenses in before too and it has no effect on my sleep. I just wake up with dry contacts and it takes a little while for them to be normal again. Then there was that one time that I was really drunk but it seems I didn't quite get my contacts lenses in the case because I noticed it sitting on the nightstand next to the case the next morning. The other one kind of got torn on the grooves that you screw the cap onto so I was stuck wearing my glasses for a couple of days.

Well again, if you feel uncomfortable when you do this, take them out. Since you have been doing this for a long time I suppose it isn't too bad. And by the time you reach REM sleep, you are WAYYY too under to really feel anything at all. It is a mater of personal preference.

my health teacher experienced this and told us. once she forgot to take off her contacts and went to bed. next day whey were too dryed our to remove by hand and were like almost glues to her eyes.she had to go to the hospital and get surgery. if your not gona take off your contacts than its beter to give them up and wear glasses... unless you got those contacts that stay for 16 days and nights withought drying up.

well, it's not all due to laziness. since i almost always wear my contacts i rarely update my glasses... so things are kinda blurry with them. also one of the screws is a little loose so they are uncomfortable. and i don't like not being able to see stuff before going to sleep or directly after waking up...

well, just update both of them, but it could get expensive so i can see why one would be reluctant. Anyway, I won't lecture you, but it'd probably be a good idea to ask your optometrist the next time you see him what the side affects could be if you plan to do this for months at a time

The consequence may be that your cornea will grow blood vessels (it normally has none) because of lack of oxygen and/ or nutrients to the cornea. These blood vessels will reduce the transparency of your cornea, affecting your vision by improperly refracting light.

Get your glasses fixed and stop wearing your contact lenses at night, or at least discuss it with your optometrist.

thats actually an extremely dumb idea because your cornea and other components of the eye are deprived of full oxygen flow whle wearing contacts normally...thats why they tell you to not keep them in for over 12 hours or so because somethin happens to your blood vessels, your eyesight, and then your eyes will develop an immunity to contacts and youll be stuck with glasses

cant say that I know if it effects your dreams or not but I have an interesting suggestion.Right now if you think it might then your feeding this info to your subconscious and it could be effecting your dreams. Take them out with the thought that you will have more success in having vivid LDs and maybe you will. your subconscious mind may think so. Use it as a tool to LDing. At the same time you will be keeping your eyes healthy...........I'm glad you posted this cause I leave mine in longer than I should to and I never thought about this til I read your message. Im gonna try this technique myself. If it works for us, lets patend the idea!!

I wear contacts and I HIGHLY suggest not sleeping in them.

what kind of contacts are they?? I wear day and night contacts.. i dont take it off for at least 1 month.. and it has no effect on dreaming or being lucid whatsoever... as long as your contacts are designed for extended wear then you're fine..

that's what i do. Yes, I am that lazy. I don't like poking at my eyes either, i find in uncomfortable, and sometimes even disturbing. I've never had any negative effects in my dreams. I used to wear glasses.

Also, my mom read some shit about some japanese boy who didn't take his contacts out for prolonged periods of time (like I do, but I don't have any left, waiting for my insurance to get renewed), and he lost his vision nearly overnight, very, very suddenly!
