      Lucid Once

Ok so i had my first lucid dream on saturday. I didnt become lucid through RC though, it was just random. Ever since then ive been trying to have another one. But is it less progress to become lucid through sudden awareness, instead of a RC?

Increased awareness and reality checking can both lead to lucidity, but the one that works better to some extent depends on the person. Probably your best bet is to start off by combining the two. Look for things out of the ordinary during the day, or just reality check every time you think about it. Then, with the reality checking, focus on awareness of the area around you and put emphasis on your different senses.

As for me, I'd say that remembering to reality check is more reliable than expecting random awareness, but that's really up to you.

Some people are strong believers in reality checks while others believe that increased awareness leading to lucidity is superior, I say: whatever works for you. Don't let other people's preferences dictate to you what is better for you in your dream life, unless of course you prefer that.

Congratulations on your first lucid dream! How exciting! And yes, this absolutely is progress, and I foresee that now that you have successfully had one lucid dream, you are more likely to have more. Although it may or may not happen again soon - sometimes patience is needed. Relax and enjoy this new adventure whenever it occurs again.

Every lucid dream is progress. The more lucid dreams you have, the more your brain becomes accustomed to this new way of dreaming, thus creating more opportunities for lucids.

An awareness induced lucid dream(What you had) is just as effective as a reality check induced dream as it means you are starting to effectively question the dream world and realize you are dreaming :p

Don't worry. I never became lucid by reality checks, either. I just saw things that seemed unusual and realized I was dreaming. Dream-induced lucid dreams aren't really reliable. Just stay determined and do your RCs anyway, questioning the world around you. Meditation seems to help, too.
