      new to the site

      hey everybody.

i'm brand new to the forum and also very interested in lucid dreaming. the few times it's happened to me have been fascinating and i want it to happen more often. so far it happens completely at random and seems to be triggered by something really out of the ordinary in a dream which causes me to question weather i'm dreaming. i'm worried, however, that my sleep cycle might prevent me from having lucid dreams. i haven't had one in a long time and i'm a very deep sleeper. i rarely remember my dreams anymore unless i have a nightmare. is it true that remembering your dreams is the first step in order to lucid dream?

i currently have aa day job in an office, nothing tiring. but later when it get's to be about 10:30 pm i get so tired i can't even keep my eyes open when im sitting at my computer.
i then lay down on my bed and i'm out in less than a minute. i sleep so deep that the worst thunderstorms don't wake me. is this good or bad (for lucid dreaming)?. my psychology professor said when you are in a really deep sleep you can't have REM. you can't dream without REM, correct?

basically, i want to know if i will have much luck lucid dreaming when i sleep so deeply.

      Hi welcome to Dreamviews!

You drive a desk as well huh? It can get tedious.

It is true, there is little REM during the deep sleep cycles, however I am 99% sure you are experiencing REM during some parts of the night, everyone does unless there is some type of chemical imbalance or brain trauma involved. Sounds to me like you might need to work on your dream recall a little.

Have you looked into the tutorials? They contain information on increasing your recall. You can also post questions here or PM anyone if you would like more help.

In a sense yes. Whats the point of having lucid dreams if you cant remember them? . Like seeker said, check out the tutorial to increase dream recall. Also keep a dream journal, it'll help

I agree with seeker. I'm like 99.99whatever % that you have REM cycles later during the sleep hours. For the first like 5 hours of sleep you, you hardly get any, but once you get to 7+, they get longer, thus better chances for good dreams. You'll be fine, there should be no reason for lucid dreaming to be a problem for you. In fact, this deep sleeping thing should help you!

believe it or not, but many people have problems with staying in their lucid dream because of excitement and the rush. Since you sleep deeply, you'll have an easier time stayingin the dream and can get excited all you want. Take it from me, I'm also a deep sleeper(but not that deep) and i can do ANYTHING i want in my dream without worrying that i'll wake up

      anyway, good luck
