      Must you sleep before WILDing?

I was just wondering if sleeping before a WILD session is a must. Is it just so you don't fall asleep? I ask this because if it is just so you won't fall asleep then I can skip it. It will really bother me to set an alarm during summer. What I'm planning on doing is:

      1. Drink a glass of milk (I love milk.)
      2. lay in bed in a comfortable position.
      3. Not move.
      4. Stay consious.

Is this all there is to WILD or am I missing something.

I think you have to sleep.

From what I understand, theres 5 different stages to sleep, the 5th being the dream state.

I suppose if it were possible to remain conscious during the first 4 stages, then you might be able to do it.But the 4th stage is the Delta Sleep stage I believe, and thats the deepest sleep stage, so staying conscious during that stage would prove difficult i would think.

I'm not sure you undertsood my question. What I mean is, Must I sleep for 5-6 hours and, wake up for 40-60 minutes and THEN start trying to WILD. I didn't mean staying awake through my dreams. What I want to do is skip the 5-6 hour sleep period, and go straight to trying to WILD.

You can go straight from being awake to a WILD without needing to sleep for 5-6 hours prior to it. However, it's pretty difficult to do.

Quick edit: Please correct me if I am wrong. From my understanding, a wild is a wake induced lucid dream in which you can attain through concentrating on an idea and keeping your mind occupied as your body enters the sleep state. This tricks you into sleeping while having your mind awake.

The problem with trying WILD in the evening is that the first REM-period starts after 90 minutes of sleep. REM-sleep is the phase when you can experience lucid dreams, so you would have to be conscious for 90 minutes after you "fall asleep".

Most propably you would just fall asleep normally or stay awake. Besides, the first REM-period lasts only for 10 or so minutes and is not so good quality.

So, it's practically impossible to succeed in WILD without any sleep before unless you manage to disturb your sleep cycle so that you would directly fall asleep into REM. Much simplier however, is to sleep that 5-7 hours, wake up and then have a try.

I tried WILD last night without sleeping before it, I have no idea how far I got, but I did experience some things. When I laid down, I found a nice comfortable position to lay in and not think. After a while i started to not be able to feel the blanket on top of me and I couldn't really feel my body, it was kind of like I was lost in my own head (except I felt my pillow). At one point I started to talk to myself in my head and i regained some feeling in my limbs, at this point I decided to lay on my stomach. I rolled over and my limbs felt much heavier than normal. I found another comfortable position and stopped thinking. I think i may have drifted off because I remember noticing all of a sudden that I couldn't hear very well and I felt extremely heavy. It seems that my realization of this destroyed the feeling. I gave up from their because I was tired.

      How close was I?

Okay, I found out why I shouldn't WILD before sleeping. I'll try it tonight.

Why does is work with naps?

As I write this I am in the 60 minute waiting phase of WILD. If you can reply fast enough, have any tips for me?

I just couldn't do it... I have extreme difficulty not moving. I usually toss and turn a lot and don't get to sleep for a few hours I need a way to make my body tired somehow. I also just realized that your not suppose to stay up for an hour before trying to WILD, or at least i'm not. When I wake up, thats it, i'm up. Next time I will try waking up, clearing my mind a bit and then trying to WILD with nothing more than a bathroom trip.
