      Hypnotism

Hey... just wondering if anyone has done much with hypnotism before. I had a look back on the previous posts but couldnt' find much.

I saw a program on hypnotism on the tv and I decided to give it a go... pretty freaky stuff... I was managing to self-hypnotise myself into doing small things using a BWgen preset (eg when the sound stops, touch your left ear). I'm fairly convinced the whole hypnosis thing works and I'm pretty keen to explore it further because it seems that I can hypnotise myself fairly easily...

I tried a lucid dream self-hypnosis thing too... basically I write out the words or suggestions on Word and read them while kinda meditating to the bwgen setting... it seems to work for the other things anyways. I got woken up too early this morning so I didn't really get to see if it worked or not so I'll try it again tonight.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had much experience with hypnotism etc as a way of inducing lucid dreams. I'm basically using it because as soon as I dream all the reality check etc goes straight out of the window and I havent' had a decent LD yet... hopefully this works.

If you have much experience I'd be grateful to hear about it.

      Hey Roller,

You might also want to look into meditation techniques - very similar (if not identical) to hypnotism. Basically, they are both pretty much based off the same principal, I think: brainwave frequency.

I'm not exactly sure, but I belive that the brainwave frequency for both hypnosis and meditation are within the same range (alpha and theta).

Check it out, it might be what you're looking to do.

Hmm yeah I'll look into that a bit more. I tried the hypnosis thing last night, and while I didn't become lucid I had very long and vivid dreams, and I remembered them in the morning with no effort at all... which is kind of weird. I think you have to reinforce the hypnosis a lot, but if anyone has any information etc about it I'd be thankful...

Yes, hypnosis would be an excellent state for giving yourself suggestions, or having someone else give your suggesitons, that you are going to remember to become aware in your dreams or do reality checks while in your dreams.

Since with hypnosis the conscious mind is by passed, suggestions could be planted easier in the subconscious mind where dreams come from, which would be very effective in helping to dream lucidly.

You could achieve the same benefits by achieving a very deep state of meditation which is basically what hpnosis is, and giving yourself the suggestions you wish while in this state.

But if you have someone else helping you with hypnosis who knows what they are doing, they would be able to take you into a much deeper state than you would be able to achieve on your own, where the suggestions they gave you would even be more effective.
This of course would need to be someone you are close to and trust completely as you would be opening up your subconscious mind to them to manipulate.

I was wondering how to suggest myself somethings, see i got a new dreamsign and its VERY importan because it happens in all my dreams, its to be in places that i don't know and if i just can let know my mind that when im in an unknown place it reminds me that im dreaming, my life is kind of a rutin (student), so i don't get to see new places alot, specially when im not in vacations.

I would be awesome for me to get to remember my self that thing. Im going to give it a try.

Visualizing what you want to accomplish might be the best way to accomplish what you are trying to accomplish Dagaz. That and actually doing reality checks whenever you find yourself in an unusual or new place while you are in the physical.

To visualize what you want to accomplish, just picture yourself being in an unfamiliar place while you are meditating, and then picture yourself doing a reality check in this unfamiliar place. Do this several times while you are meditating, each time picturing yourself in another unfamiliar place and then doing a reality check, and your subconscious mind should start getting the message. You don't have to actually do a reality check, just picture yourself doing one. Matter of fact, I think I'll start doing this myself. Thanks for the idea Dagaz.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case it probably is, as pictures and symbols are the language of the subconscious.

I've been doing a bit more of this hypnosis thing and I think it is starting to work well for me... No lucid results yet, but I think I will have to keep doggedly at it and not give up. I think it is the only decent way to get my subconscious working with dreamsigns etc.

Tried looking for some sites on the net to give me some no-bullshit info on it but failed miserably... it's all crap trying to sell you stuff errgh.

If anyone knows of some good resources, please let me know

You can probably find a wide assortment of books on hypnosis and self-hypnosis at your local bookstore or library, which is probably the best and cheapest way to learn hypnosis.

      yo iadr,
as i read this i happen to have the BWgen on the subliminal learning preset with some voice text looping in the background of some LD auto suggestion i made. it couldnt hurt to try it i guess. but i think it would help greatly if we just give ourselvs an hour a day to just lie down, maybe with some binaural mp3s on, and auto suggest things mentally (such as noticing dreamsigns or attaining lucidity). exactly like what you said about mentally acting out RCs in unfamiliar locations, great idea.

      yo jay,
Yes, I just happened to think of that and it just made sense that since the subconscious normally talks to us in pictures and not words, it might be effective if we also communicated with it in the same way. Thanks for your reply.
