Hello Seeker,
The LD/OBE Timer is not my creation. I just modified it a little to suit my sleep schedule.
Interestingly though, Adam Hewitt of Transparent Corporation asked the creator of the Timer if he could modify it - and then re-offer it to the public for free...although it's free now.
Here is a copy of Adam's proposal to Matt (the Timer creator)

Hi Matt,
My name is Adam Hewett, I'm a co-owner of the Transparent Corporation, http://www.transparentcorp.com
I'm currently working on a project involving altered states, Out of Body experiences and Lucid Dreams in particular. This will probably be a plugin available to users of our software products, which focus on providing advanced brainwave entrainment, hypnosis, etc. We've spent years researching and collecting information on altered states, and we have developed some unique and highly effective sessions to help induce OBEs, Lucid Dreams and other states.
The reliability of these sessions is increasing the research progresses, but, as you know, there is no one-size-fits-all solution and there is no way to reliably induce these states in everyone via brainwave stimulation alone. For some people it can require visualization techniques, eliminating fears and psychological barriers, or "tricking" the mind such as in the fascinating "Rhythm Napping" procedure you came up with.
So.. along with this plugin which will contain entrainment sessions and such, I'm hoping to include a comprehensive manual with helpful tips, techniques, exercises and perhaps some additional tools.
I have really enjoyed reading over your OBE Course Book and I've found a lot of the information inside very useful. I was wondering if you would be interested in helping us with this project.
Also, what would you think of allowing us to create an advanced version of your OBE Timer, with specify-able sounds and export functionality, so the user can use the timer in any CD or MP3 player. We would not be selling this, and I would of course give you credit for the idea, put a link to your site.
You would also be free to distribute it on saltcube.
Let me know your thoughts on all this. Looking forward to talking more.
Adam Hewett

I think adding visual signals is an excellent idea. Maybe you could contact Adam and put in a few suggestions?

This should be effective if you can point your monitor so that your eyes catch a reflection from a wall.
This flash could be used in conjunction with the sound.
