The traditional WBTB method involves sleeping 4-6 hours, waking up an hour, and going back to bed. This approach has never actually worked for me, but the WBTB idea is a very attractive one.
After some accidental discoveries, I have discovered that sleeping 2-2.5 hours, staying up for 1.5-2 hours (and actually doing work), and going back to bed will for me, in many cases, induce a lucid dream nearly immediately. Tonight, I fell asleep for the second time at around 3:10, and woke up to record my lucid dream at 3:35. The dream felt longer than that, but I suppose it wasn't.
I've never had any success with classic WBTB strategy, but this strategy (which I started doing for other reasons) seems to be quite remarkable for me. I suppose I should do further testing, but I've tried it 3 times and succeeded 2 (and would have succeeded 3 times, except my reality check failed last night).
So, for those of you having trouble with WBTB, I'd encourage you to try varying things a little. Perhaps each of us has our own optimal sleep schedule for lucid dreaming...
