How do you become completely clear minded?

I've read alot of the Techniques and seen everyone say that you should complete be clear minded. How do you keep so focused and keep your mind from drifting? Everytime I try to keep focused on trying to lucid dreaming I keep thinking about what i want to dream about and then i get carried away on that and end up completely lost.

well, it, as with many things, is mostly practice, but from my experiance you should focus on NOTHING, in your mind think nothing, nothing, nothing......if that makes absoultly no sense try to just focus on your breathing, not talking in your mind, but just taking a breth in, letting it out. This is just what i do, it might not work well for everyone.

      Welcome, Padeo!

Not as easy as it sounds, eh?

I think the best thing is to focus on a single thought, such as "I will realize that I am dreaming". Even that isn't as easy as it sounds, as your mind will tend to drift -- but with some work and discipline you should be able to learn how to do it.

Just for the record, I do not appreciate my photo being hi-jacked and put onto the profile of someone who's acting like a sicko.

Hey Padeo, if you're going to create fake accounts with the name 'Chester the Melestor,' AT LEAST learn to spell "molester."

      Anyway, banned.

hey, I'm assuming you are referring to WILD, in which case, I have some suggestions.

as in Zen Buddhism, practice your breathing. take comfortable breaths, and when you have a repetition with that down, begin to count them. Inhale...one....exhale....two.... and so on and so forth. you can also switch the breathing with something else. for example, you could focus on how your body feels, or the space between your eyes.

I also find being a little less comfortable to help. if you usually sleep in underwear and a T-shirt, try to sleep in jeans, or get rid of a blanket or two. just make sure you're not so comfortable that you feel yourself sinking into relaxation, and thus losing your conscious state.

hope this was some help, and good luck

wait but how can one focus on nothing if they thinking of trying to focus on nothing. I mean if your thinking of focusing on nothing, then your thinking about 'focusing on nothing', but not actually nothing. How can one then focus on nothing

it's impossible to focus on, "nothing" but if you focus on the idea of nothingness, and focus on the word, then you'll remain aware of yourself. just as long as you focus on one thing, and one thing alone, you'll be able to eventually remain in a conscious state.

yep, it's quite simple to focus on one thing. wake up in the middle of the night, and try WILD or my personal favorite HILD (hagarts). you're so tired, that you'll barely be able to fall asleep, and with HILD, that's the trick ;D

What most beginners do wrong is that they use the mind to make the mind empty!
That is fighting the mind with the mind! That wont work!
Its not so strange that happens to beginners because u are conditioned to always use your mind as long as we know from when we are awake!
Clearing the mind is not a different way of thinking! So dont use the mind to clear the mind.

I do it by acting i let my head fall a sleep..i use not consciousness but awareness!
I make my awareness one with my breathing, thats the way the east does it!
So not make consciousness one with breathing but make your awareness one with breathing!
I do that by focussing at one point of my body..and visualize there my awareness and my breathing, making them one.
Then i more and more feel my awareness and breathing and less and less experience thoughts and the mind. Then (and that takes really pure patience) i slowly sink deeper and deeper from waking in to sleep and enter a dream lucid!

A common method in TM is to not fight the distracting thoughts. Rather to acknowledge each and let them go.

I use the "bubbles method". I am sitting under the water. As each thought intrudes, I acknowledge it and then let a bubble carry it to the surface where it's now gone from my "space".

Eventually you'll find less and less bubbles and fewer and fewer distractions intruding.

I don't want to hear about the brain from someone that doesn't have one.
Nor do I want to hear about evolution from someone that hasn't evolved.
