It's crazy, but I'll give it a go. (the 'L.A. WILD')

I have trouble focusing when I attempt WILD, so while I was sitting and thinking earlier today i decided that i needed an 'idea' that i could concentrate on that hopefully wouldn't just fizzle out. When i try and repeat mantras to myself it works for a few times then my mind wanders. To counter this i thought, "What if i had something that didn't have a specific start/finish". Then i came up with my crazy WILD technique:

Once you have relaxed fully and are begining to 'fall asleep' start singing (in your head) the Lambchops song - "This is the song that never ends". Because this song doesn't really have a begining or ending i figure it will be easier to concentrate on and i won't be finishing one line of a mantra and repeating it, but more like a circular pattern where the end of one section is the start of another, thus you can loop around the song till you reach HI or SP of whatever.

I have also came up with a name for this variation of the WILD tech, just in case it does actually work. The L.A. WILD (pronounced: el aye wild) short for Lambchops Assisted Wake Induced Lucid Dream.

If anyone else wants to give it a shot I'd be grateful for feedback to see if this does help others to concentrate, so that they don't fall asleep. If you don't know the song i could post the words but you kinda need the tune for it to be completely effective...

With the amount of LD's I'm having at the moment I'll try anything. Best of luck,

      Glor

I don't know the "Lambchop's song".. but I did have a WILD once using the ditty "99 bottles of beer on the wall".

What are the words to the Lambchop's song?

      Hello!

I just joined this site a few days ago. Tried a few times to have a LD, but no luck yet. This idea seems ineresting, so I'll give it a go tonight.

Also, on topic, in case you are wondering, here's the lyrics:

This is the song that never ends,
It goes on and on, my friends,
Some people started singing it, not knowing what it was,
And they'll continue singing it forever just because,
This is the song that never ends. . .
      [/b]
      <repeat>

At least, I think that's how it goes. As for the rhythm, I can't think of how to represent it on the forums.

yeah, thanks for the lyrics Pseudo, I can't seem to find a download anywhere, which is not surprising really...the only pages i found were ones that included singing it as the most annoying thing you can do to people. LOL

And i'm not sure if you'll be able to use it if you don't know the tune I'll test it tonight and if successful I'll search harder for a link to it. Should be interesting,

To my experience counting is the best way to concentrate, especially since many forms of the WILD technique are described by counting "1 - I'm dreaming, 2 - I'm dreaming, etc."

Now, singing a song will associate itself with mental images and concepts. Numbers are the only thing that won't associate themselves with anything unless you let them or make some initiative. That's how I see it.

I got into the early stages of WILD when breathing in and out and counting with each breath "1 - I'm dreaming, 2 - I'm dreaming, etc." but the oral "I'm dreaming" here can't be present there alone. It has to be backed up by awareness of sorts and conceptual thought about dreaming. That way the counting and breathing will drive one into relaxation and mild concentration as well as into drowziness and the "I'm dreaming" along with the actualy conceptual thought of dreaming should have the effect of realization when needed (as long as you actually pay attention to the concept of "I'm dreaming" instead of just chanting it).

Sorry, don't mean to impose on this thread, heh, just thought this would be a related topic here.

Yeah, I know the reasons behind that Merlock, but my problem is either i'm too tired or I just suddenly find myself thinking other things. The reason I have used this song is so I don't have the opportunity to have my thoughts taken away once I've finished a certain number because this songs loops around and around. Thanks for the link Clarity, I had searched for a while yesterday and couldn't find it. My first attempt (if you can call it that) last night didn't work because as soon as I had done the 61 point relaxation I had pretty much fallen asleep, this is a good example of my problem. I didn't even start singing the song to myself and when I woke up this moning I found I had turned my phone alarm off subconsciously during night or when it went off in the early morning after 6 hours sleep. I'll have another go at this tonight though because, for me, I think this technique could help a lot. Forever singing,

      Glor

Seriously... this song really is annoying. Just thinking about it would keep me awake all night. rofl

Anyway, I like the idea to use a song instead of a mantra. Maybe we can find something less annoying that can also be constructed into an infinite loop.

      Hooray for craziness!

Unfortunitely, so far my attempts have only had a very small increase on WILD ability. Last night I got to some of the 'shakes' but still didn't get further than that and i still ended up losing track of were I was and having my thoughts drift away into nothingness

Maybe someone else has an idea of how to hold your concentration onto a single thought/object that works even for people that fall asleep really easily. Any suggestions would be welcome

      Hey,

I was going to try to do something very similar. My idea was just to add an "...and..." to the end of everything I said. This way I would be persuaded to keep going. It sounded kind of weird, but I think it may work. "The next time I am dreaming I will realize I am dreaming, and the next time I am dreaming I will realize I am dreamind, and the next time I am dreaming..."

      Hope this helps,

      Nick
