      WILD failure #1

Well, being the impatient fool I am, I tried seriously to WILD last night, wiht no success. I just want to share my obesrvations on the whole thing, as it was an odd experience.

I know most of the guides say to try it after sleeping a bit, or in the afternoon or something, but I can only ever seem to sleep at night....

Anyways, I went to bed, and started to try to relax, and not move. (which was extremely difficult for me, since I have never gone without moving at all for over a minute before) After a while, my arms and legs went kinda numb, and I couldn't feel anything from them, except for a kind of tingly sensation. (I did have one problem that occasionally my mind would for no reason focus on one specific random part of my body, and I would feel extremely uncomfortable there, like I had to move it... Kinda like the worst itch you've ever had.) As time went on, things just kinda stayed at this point. There was no 'imagery' that I could see, and so I just laid there. Eventually I was getting all kinds of weird feelings, the most notable was like my bed was contorting in weird way, kinda wavy-like...

After a long while, I realized I was still completely aware of everything I was hearing and feeling.... I was quite uncomfortable and couldn't take it any more, so I gave up and went to sleep normally. After the whole thing I felt all sweaty and uncomforatble.

Total elapsed time: 1 hour 15 minutes.

I know I'm probably months away from actually being able to do this, but any comments on:
      a) What I did wrong?
      B) What I actually achieved, if anything?

      Thanks

Hi...I'm Guardian and I have some tips for staying conscious while your body falls asleep.
I hope this helps you, this works for me. (If you have any question or even just feel like having someone to talk to, feel free to contact me any hour of any day/night here's my AIM screen name: Guardian123abc.

A ) Find a comfortable place and relax.

      B) Close your eyes and calm your mind by picturing an enjoyable scenario, the more peaceful the better.

      C) Concentrate on your breathing, don't try to make it happen...simply "allow" it to happen.

      D) Look far into the darkness of your eyes being closed, and allow a picture to form, relaxing all the while.

      E) Think of images with rythmic patterns in sounds, and a physical feeling while listening to it, like laying on grass with with freeway traffic in the background, or the melody of a favorite soft music while laying down on soft blankets. Imagine the physical feelings while you are invisioning listening to the rythmic patterns.

      F) You may feel your body go numb because of the chemicals in your body that cause you to stay still while you sleep, so that you can have an undesturbed rest (this is how the body sleeps), don't worry about it and don't try to fight the feeling of losing that...if you do it will only frustrate you, raise your heart rate, and may wake you up. Instead, if you have an itch, scratch it and move on. If you feel uncomfortable, get yourself comfortable because only through mental comfortablility will you accomplis your goal

      G) When you are comfortable and relaxed at this point, you'll be able to be more aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to the light in what you are picturing and the rythmic sounds you are creating.

      Tips to remember:

      Troubles with WILD

      1) The goal is to be awake enough to enter a WILD, but not too awake to relax.
      2) Sources such as caffeine are good ways to help in this, but try different things carefully to find what's works best, as results may vary.
      3) Keep your mind focussed, and if you stray, simply return back to your focus and don't allow yourself to become frustrated.
It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live.

...Though it does perhaps less to not have dreams at all to live out...

Wow, thanks a lot! I think all that just may help. As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to give it another shot sometime soon. Oh, and sorry, but I don't have AIM...

I would make a longer post here, but I REALLY need to sleep. I've gotten only about 5 hours every day for the last week solid....
