      Voices disturbing my WILD attempts

OK, so about 1/3 of the time I try to WILD, I get HI and actually seem to progress somewhere, but I've never got past that because of The Voices.

No, I'm not talking about the voices of people talking that's usually natural with HI, I'm talking about voices RIGHT IN MY EAR that are so realistic that I could swear that there's someone sitting on me. I can never get back to the old rythm after this, and I'm fed up. It's involuntary, that's the problem.

Sometimes it's still jerk-out-of-HI, but not realistic or in my ear. I'm just listening to the calm babble of voices when all of a sudden I hear someone's voice cry out violently and I almost scream in shock.

I also, sometimes when I'm close to falling asleep, I'll have an HI where I trip, and all of a sudden I'm jerked out - because my body acted it out and my legs have done this ENORMOUS twitch/jerk and my hands suddenly spread out as reflex - you know when you fall and you fling your hands in front of you? This is also unconcious - I never knew I did it. If I had SP during this period, I probably could have successfully done a WILD.

Advice (though I imagine this is hard to prevent)? Comments?

Yeah that happens to me almost every time I WILD. The first time it happened almost made me get up and swing, but I heard some man whisper something in my ear as if he was right next to me. The only reason I didn't flip out was because I convinced myself that i was safe and this was all a dream and that there was nothing that I had to be scared of.

This is the exact reason why I refuse to try WILD. So obviously I don't have mush advice for you. From what I've read though hearing voices or sounds is natural. So like The Gaurdians I suggest you try to remain calm and remind yourself that no matter how real they sound the voices aren't real.

On a slightly unrelated note, I'm curious, what do the voices say? Are they intelligable?

i've had this happen numerous times...sudden, loud growling, or screaming right in my ears. the first few times i obviously jumped, and broke my concentration. eventually i got fed up at having my WILD attempts thwarted, and told myself repeatedly before WILDing that i would not allow any sudden sounds to alarm me.
strangely enough, even though it happened again, i didn't move (though it still surprised me), and i managed to simply remain calm with full awareness the auditory hallucination wasn't real.

since then the frequency of really intense hallucinations has gone dramatically down (over the past couple months), and the most intense one was a loud banging 'on my desk'.
i know its easier said than done, but you must simply 'accept them', and they will most likely go away. try preparing yourself for their possibility beforehand, and imagine your mild surprise, but not over-reaction.

      good luck

      Very Annoying!

hey, ive had that same experience, voices in your ear and also the bang on the desk. the first time this happend i crapped myself but i WILD all the time and therefore have got pretty used to it. the only advice i could give u would be to just to expect the noises before u begin to WILD.
      Good Luck.
Let me know how u get on!
      Peace.

      The guardians lol

And yeah they are quite intelligeble. you can make them out as if they are just another human speaking to you. Thats mainly the thing that shocks you so much, they sound so real. Thats one of the things that un-nerve me, is because in real life I can handle someone if they come at me, but when I sleep its personal, I mean I'm basically helpless, and hearing a grwon man laugh/whisper in your ear really gets to ya' lol.

I have about the same. I allso hear random vioces when I try to WILD. It are allmost more thougts then vioces however. Yet Verry verry real.

once I actually hear that vioce, and said something back, totally crazy, becouse I was half asleep. Basicly, I witnessed talking in my sleep. I sometimes do that.

Anyhow, back to WILDing. Often I feel like I am about to drift away. I hear rushing in my ears. But or I get exited and it goes away, or nothing happens further : (

      Keep tryin'

Personally, I would try not to consentrate on the voices. You know what is happening. There's no need to be afraid of it. Let it come. Eventually the voices will fade.

i get this as well sometimes. i've had to learn how to allow it to increase, and then 'melt into it'...

i know that's vague, but i can't really describe it in words, and chances are it'd be slightly differnent for you both even if i could.

      don't overthink.
      don't over-try.
      only accept it absolutely.,

I feel ya on the voices, it's a real problem for me too. My few successful WILD attempts have been void of the voices, so I'm convinced that there is a way around them...but not sure how. Good luck, don't give up.

Just remeber the louder and more real they sound the closer you are to going into a dream.

I often hear voices that are clear, however, the meaning of the what is being said isn't exactly understood. I usually hear either a radio playing in the background (like when you're in a car and the radio is down low enough that the road noise muffles the audio) or I hear a baby crying. And no, I don't have kids.

The voices are normal to me, though sometimes I can't understand what they say (I've got a slight hearing problem IRL). Last night they kept calling my name until I stopped "day" dreaming and noticed them. I asked them, "Do you like swimming?"
      They said, "The TV's broken."
      I said, "Why's it broken?"
They said, "The guinea pig escaped again."
"What's that got to do with it?"
      "Would you like some coffee?"
      "No... *Goes off to daydream...*"
      "Lilly...."
      "Shut up."
      "Lilly? Lilly. LILLY!"
"Ah, ye gods , what is it?"
      "Can I have a *unheard*"
      "Huh?"
"I still think that tree looks pink."

      Weeeeird..

There is bit in Buddhism about the experiences in a transitory body (it actually talks about bardo beings who are transitioning from one life to thier next rebirth) that might help.
      .
It has to do with going to sleep (or dieing in the case of bardo beings) with a positive or negative mind. It's a bit of an extrapolation to the WILD scenario, but it might help.

It may be that if you attempt a wild after having a non-virtuous or negative day, and your mind is a bit dark, you will be more likely to hear sounds that will frighten you or disturb your mind. If you WILD with a virtuous mind, the experience may turn out to be more joyful and scerene.

Also, going deeper or coming out of the dream state depends on factors which the Buddhists call mental sinking and mental exitement. Mental sinking is when your mind feels duller and duller (I often loose control of lucid dreams due to this), and mental exitement is when the mind becomes more active (often kicking me out of the LD). Control of these factors come from meditation using concentration and effort to attain tranquil abiding (in otherwords... practice).

      Well... There's my two bits.

You have to tell your self before you go to sleep that no one is in your room and that strange stuff wil happen. It work for me.
