Just a theory of a theory...

I have an idea and I am not sure about it, so I would like somer feedback and ideas please.

You know that you can get something into your dream by thinking about it before you go to sleep and you get reality checks in dreams by making a habit of it when you are awake, right? Would it be possible to get a character to appear in all of your dreams who will always tell you that you are dreaming. I know that that would instantly set on an LD.

      What do you think?

Making anything appear in dreams takes a habit and habits aren't simple to form for many.
Making a constant dream character would require, I dare say, nearly an obsession.
Then again, it really does depend on one's force of will. Thus, I would suggest training will power if you are planning to pursue this interesting idea.

I think this is a very unique twist on the conventional DC and its role that it plays.
      What a great idea.
Like a character that possibly you make up?
Each and every time that you see that character it is used Only to signify that you are dreaming.
If you were to use a made up character it would eliminate the "real world" experiences.
Or if you already do have a person, as I do, that almost is always in my dreams, I can initially think when I see them that they are signifying that I am in a dream. (Would that be considered using someone? )

In either case you would have to have that character be manifested in each dream. Which as Merlock said, may have implications too.

      In practical terms, no.

Yes, by repeated suggestion, and often it takes more than several weeks of repeated suggestion before Dream Content is effected, but yes, eventually, one can detect that one's suggestions can have an influence upon Dream Content. But, no, our control over Dream Content is the furthest thing from Absolute, and the Dream Mind, or if you call it the Subconscious Mind, is terribly stubborn and possessive of its own authority over Dream Content and even when the Dream Mind does concede to the influence of Suggestion of the Conscious Mind, often the Suggested Content is given an aspect of interpretation by the Dream Mind, as though the Dream Mind would wish to make some comment on the Suggested Content.

So, to have a Dream Character that would ever be reminding you that you are in a Lucid Dream, well, it would have to be a suggestion that the Dream Mind thoroughly and completely agrees with and is enthusiastic about. But, since Lucidity is often used to interfere with the Dream Mind's control on Dream Content -- with nearly every Modern Dreamer wishing to usurp Dream Control away from the Dream Mind and take charge for themselves, then WHY OH WHY would the Dream Mind wish to participate at all in creating a Dream Character that would only serve to undercut and subvert what the Dream Mind had planned for all of the Upcoming Dreams.

The better Strategy is to condition one's Self into supposing that the Subconscious Mind is in fact a Higher Dream Mind, part of the Collective Consciousness and that it contains all Knowledge and Wisdom, and can provide the Door Way to the Realm of Angels and the Kingdom of God. Once you begin to show such respect to the Process of Dreaming, then one might begin to notice that one is receiving the Sponsorship of some very important Dream Characters -- not mere slaves to one's material and waking wishes, but those who point us to our higher, better and more spiritual goals and ultimate ends.

Leo. Is it your belief that Dream characters are not a representation of yourself in one form or another.? But rather important dream characters that would be whom? Does this apply to every DC?

I think this is a cool idea 8) and I plan to try it the next few times I get lucid. I'll update this thread with the results.

edit April 12: Became lucid and found a DC, as I started to instruct him to appear and tell me when I'm dreaming. I woke up. Will try again

I used to have a dream charachter who appeared in every dream, and then I practiced reality checks every time I saw her. Yet, as soon as I started doing this she dissapeared from all my dreams...sometimes its just not that easy.

      didn't work

In 2 different LDs I instruct DCs to tell me I'm dreaming in future dreams. In one of these DC was my father who appears in many dreams. 2 days after lucid I have dream with father DC, but he doesn't tell me I'm dreaming. So this technique didn't work for me

(in addition to looking for a short cut, I was curious if DCs have independent memory - but no proof so far)

edit: had a dream last night where my Father DC woke me up! He then played with tv and stereo remote controls I wondered why he was there and why he woke me up. He didn't tell me I was dreaming. But he almost made me lucid. If it happens again then maybe there is something to this technique

I don't know if that would work (for me at least). I had a dream where a DC told me I was dreaming, but I didn't believe them.
